Senior Service Engineer - Energy Storage
Location: Irvine, CA or Westborough, MA - Remote with Up to 50% Travel
About the Company
Our client is one of the fastest-scaling energy storage solution providers in North America, delivering fully integrated, grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) to leading IPPs and utilities. Backed by one of the world's largest battery manufacturers, this U.S.-based integrator offers an end-to-end product suite combining LFP battery systems, power electronics, system integration, lifecycle services, and proprietary EMS into a single, streamlined delivery model.
With over 10 GWh of ESS deployments already secured and U.S.-based manufacturing coming online to deliver 16 GWh of domestic LFP cells, this company is shaping the future of grid resiliency, clean power storage, and energy independence in the U.S.
Their customers include some of the most sophisticated IPPs and infrastructure investors in the world, and their U.S.-made systems are designed to maximize IRA tax benefits while meeting the market’s most stringent safety and reliability standards.
Position Overview
This is a hands-on, high-impact role in the Service Engineering team, supporting the next generation of large-scale energy storage systems deployed across the country. You’ll lead the development of field service protocols, technical training, tooling infrastructure, and aftermarket services critical to the long-term success of multi-GWh battery installations. You won’t just close service tickets - you’ll help define how the industry services energy storage at scale.
What You’ll Do
Develop and deliver technical training for field technicians and third-party service partners
Design and maintain tools, checklists, and SOPs for safe and efficient service execution
Write detailed maintenance and troubleshooting procedures for new and legacy ESS hardware
Advise product teams on Design for Serviceability during new system development
Conduct time studies and implement lean improvements in service operations
Launch and scale aftermarket service offerings aligned with Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSAs)
Provide engineering support for field escalations, root cause analysis, and issue resolution
What Sets This Role Apart
Strategic Growth Stage: Join a company at the center of a massive scale-up with 15+ GWh of contracts recently secured in the U.S.
Domestic Manufacturing Advantage: Support systems built with U.S.-made LFP battery cells designed to maximize safety, performance, and tax credit eligibility
Vertically Integrated Platform: Work within a model that combines battery production, system integration, software, and service under one roof
Real Impact: Help enable the deployment of energy storage systems equivalent to offsetting 16 million lbs of CO annually
What We’re Looking For
Must Have:
Strong experience developing field service procedures and training programs
Deep familiarity with energy storage systems, power conversion, or HV electrical systems
Ability to interface cross-functionally across engineering, product, and field teams
Effective communicator who can translate engineering complexity into usable documentation
Troubleshooting experience across both hardware and software systems
Nice to Have:
Experience with controls/SCADA platforms or real-time operating systems
Knowledge of industrial communications protocols (CAN, Modbus, TCP/IP, DNP3)
Exposure to grid-tied energy assets, generation equipment, or electrical distribution
Background in Lean Six Sigma or structured root cause analysis
Comfort navigating remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance systems
Qualifications
B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent technical experience)
Minimum of 5 years in relevant technical engineering or field support roles
Willingness to travel up to 50% if remote
This is a career-defining opportunity to work at the cutting edge of the energy transition, helping to build and support the systems that will anchor America’s future power grid.
