Role

The VP/Controller will be responsible to prepare all financial statements for the company including development, construction, and projects. This role will ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and the effective management of financial operations.

Responsibilities

Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow statements. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant regulations.

Accountable for meeting financial deadlines: internal, investor, compliance, and regulatory.

Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing insights and recommendations for cost control and financial planning.

Oversee financial aspects of construction projects, including cost tracking, progress billing, and variance analysis. Ensure proper accounting for project costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses.

Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

Identify opportunities for improving financial systems and processes. Implement changes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capabilities.

Maintain corporate bank accounts including balancing bank accounts once a week.

Prepare monthly cash projection for corporate use and allocate expenses between development and construction.

Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and oversee account payable for the individual projects.

Oversee the payroll process including processing payroll in timely fashion and ensuring funding into payroll bank account.

Process payroll every other week and update payroll reports to record to accounting system. Download quarterly payroll tax reports.

Prepare census report for 401K and insurance quarterly.

be sent a 1099, prepare the 1099s, and send them out in January of each year.

Special projects as directed by Senior Management

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. Advanced degree desirable.

Public Accounting experience and CPA strongly preferred.

A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably with a multi-location real estate company or construction company or a large national/regional accounting firm.

Strong working knowledge of and ability to apply GAAP in the preparation of financial statements and in accounting for transactions of the Company.

Supervisory experience managing accounting staff, including general accounting, property accounting, accounts payable, and fixed assets.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills and confidence to interact with an experienced and driven ownership/management team.

Project management skills, organized, detail-oriented, and capable of handling multiple tasks.

Proficient on setting up accounting software systems and other computer applications such as Adobe, Microsoft Office, and Excel.
