PROVAIL is seeking a visionary and strategic Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) to join our executive leadership team! PROVAIL was founded in 1942 by parents of children with cerebral palsy. They created some of the first community services for individuals with cerebral palsy and other severe disabilities in the area. Our mission is to support people with disabilities to fulfill their life choices. We help people decide how they want to live their lives in the community and then provide the support services they need to act on those choices. We are one of the state’s largest private, multi-service agencies dedicated to meeting the needs of children and adults with all types of disabilities.
What we offer:
Competitive pay, $125,000 - $155,000 per year, DOE

What you’ll do:
Strategic Leadership & Vision
Serve as the senior executive responsible for developing and implementing advancement strategies aligned with PROVAIL’s mission and strategic plan.
Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and program leaders to integrate resource development, communications, and brand identity across internal culture and external storytelling.
Ensure advancement efforts support resource development for core services, organizational growth, and long-term sustainability.
Partnership and Collaboration
Act as a strategic thought partner to the CEO on advancement and resource development, stakeholder engagement, and external positioning.
Support the CEO in cultivating a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.
Represent PROVAIL externally in donor, funder, and partner engagements, both independently and alongside the CEO.
Partner with the Chief People Officer to ensure communications reflect internal culture, recruitment narratives, and DEI commitments.
Work with the Chief Impact Officer to align messaging and funding strategies with program data and goals.
Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer to co-develop and manage advancement budgets and align revenue strategy with financial planning.
Fund Development & Revenue Strategy
Lead revenue strategies encompassing individual giving, major gifts, institutional funding, public grants, sponsorships, events, and planned giving.
Develop and execute multi-year fundraising strategies that meet annual and long-term revenue goals.
Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with donors, partners, and key stakeholders.
Identify and pursue new funding opportunities to diversify and expand revenue.
Oversee donor database systems and ensure accurate reporting and donor data integrity.
Communications, Community Engagement & Advocacy
Lead the development and implementation of integrated marketing and communication strategies.
Ensure messaging across all channels reflects PROVAIL’s mission, values, and racial equity commitments.
Guide production of marketing collateral, digital content, and media relations, ensuring brand consistency and impact.
Serve as a key ambassador for PROVAIL within the community, philanthropic sector, and disability rights ecosystem.
Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, and media.
Engage in advocacy efforts that support public policies and funding aligned with PROVAIL’s mission.
Organizational Culture, Team Leadership & Philanthropic Engagement
Foster a shared sense of ownership for resource development across staff, board, and community stakeholders by modeling and promoting an organization-wide understanding of philanthropy as a dimension of mission delivery.
Provide strategic leadership to the Development Committee on the board of directors.
Coach and support internal partners in resource development, storytelling, and external engagement efforts.
Supervise and mentor advancement team members, including development and marketing/communications staff.
Promote inclusive, strengths-based leadership that aligns with PROVAIL’s values and builds individual and team capacity.
Equity, Inclusion & Disability Justice
Integrate anti-racist and disability justice practices into all advancement and communication strategies.
Center the voices and lived experiences of people with disabilities and other marginalized identities in storytelling, messaging, and donor engagement.
Increase representation and model narratives that align with organizational values.
Metrics, Accountability & Financial Oversight
Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for resource development and communications.
Make data-informed decisions to assess impact and continuously improve advancement efforts.
Oversee advancement-related budgeting and financial management in collaboration with the CFO.
What you’ll bring:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
8–10 years of progressive experience in resource development, nonprofit leadership, or advancement roles.
Demonstrated success in major gift fundraising and managing comprehensive campaigns.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Deep commitment to disability justice, equity, and PROVAIL’s mission.
Familiarity with donor management systems (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge) is preferred.
Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and work collaboratively across departments.
Lived or professional experience with disability and/or experience advancing equity across lines of disability, race, class, gender, language, and culture is strongly encouraged.
