In this role, you’ll be responsible for more than 35 special events annually including Summer Concerts, Movie Nights, 4th of July Fireworks, Spooktacular Halloween event, Egg-Shellebration, Easter event, Memorial Day, Veteran’s Day, Snowy Hula Day with Santa, groundbreaking events for new projects, ribbon cuttings, and many more! This position will work collaboratively with a variety of City departments, local government agencies, community businesses, non-profits, and other key event stakeholders to host quality and engaging special events that activate community spaces and build life-long positive memories for residents.

Who We Are…
The Rancho Cucamonga Community Services Department’s mission is to engage the community by providing opportunities to play, celebrate, grow and be entertained through premier programs, outstanding services, and a positive environment creating life-long memories. The department operates the Epicenter Sports Complex, RC Family Resource Center, RC Sports Center, Victoria Gardens Cultural Center, Goldy S. Lewis Community Center, and James L. Brulte Senior Center. In addition to the above-listed facilities, more than 30 different parks are open to the community for passive use, park shelters and event rentals, hiking trails, athletic fields, and city-planned special events.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING HERE AT TEAM RC
This Supervisor position operates in the Special Event Division and is responsible for curating, implementing, overseeing, and evaluating special events. Using a creative. curious and inclusive mind-set, this position will focus on engaging new and existing large-scale special events and programs such as festivals, concert series, and ceremonies.
You'll be responsible for:
Developing and administering programming/event budgets and preparing post-event and financial summary evaluations; monitoring assigned revenue areas for performance.
Evaluating current special events to ensure the department is achieving the desired outcome in terms of community engagement and cost/benefit in use of City funds.
Establishing and maintaining relationships with event supporters to procure event sponsorship funds from various businesses; coordinating sponsorship opportunities and manages deliverables on executed sponsorship agreement(s) for each event(s).
Managing event contracts, permits as needed, and facility oversight related to events and calendaring.
Strategic planning for future execution of special events; staying up to date on current trends, community needs, and available resources to provide innovative and impactful activities for the community.
Developing a sustainable cost-recovery model to support subsidized programs and services; conducting research to develop programming and special events and collects data to measure effectiveness and impact of special events.
Employing strong leadership skills to benefit Team RC and the community.
Cooperating with Community Affairs team to establish and implement event marketing plans.
Acting as a liaison to large events/programs that the city has partnered with through a binding contract.
Overseeing and evaluating artist/talent and programming for events.
Provides assignments, coordination of schedules, and assistance to assigned recreation special events division and volunteer staff.
Must have the ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

ARE YOU QUALIFIED
Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor's degree in recreation or a related field and three years of experience in the implementation of cultural and recreation activities and programs or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Examples of Acceptable Substitutions:
Substitution: A total of seven years of professional-level experience in the implementation of cultural and recreation activities and programs may substitute for the bachelor’s degree requirement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and programs common to the field of recreation and cultural programs, community center operations and management; principles of supervision; first aid methods and safety practices related to recreational program planning and evaluation; methods for identifying community recreation needs. Ability to effectively work with people having varied socio-economic standings; prepare and present concise written and oral reports; supervise, train, and evaluate staff; plan, promote and implement recreation and Community Services programs; analyze unusual situations and resolve through application of policy; deal constructively with conflict and develop effective resolutions.
Special Requirements:
Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Depending on the assignment, first aid and CPR certification may be .
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent standing and sitting. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper; occasional lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five pounds such as files, stacks of paper, reference and other materials. Moving from place to place within the office; some reaching for items above and below desk level. Strength, dexterity, coordination and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal occasionally.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Generally clean work environment with limited exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, odors, or noise. Travel throughout the City is . Work schedule may include evenings and weekends.
