Description:

Wanted: Emerging Power Electronics Engineers! Are you an early career electrical engineer looking for your next opportunity, especially one in power conversion (AC-DC, DC-DC)? Do you want to develop your technical skills while feeling like you’ve made a real difference at the company? Arnold Magnetics Corporation (AMC) designs and builds ruggedized power supplies for the defense, aerospace, and energy sectors. That’s right: we power the equipment that keeps us all safe, gets you to grandma’s house, and lights up the room at night. We need YOUR help designing unique solutions and keeping existing product moving forward!

*** Note: you must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident ***

Attributes: fast learner, positive attitude, high attention to detail, hands on, hard worker, exceptional English skills both verbal and written (if you also speak Spanish, that’s great!), interest in both new design and sustaining engineering

Strongly desired skills/experience:

Some prior power supply design and topology knowledge, preferably professional experience but open to strong educational background

Moderate or above Altium experience, esp. schematic capture, component creation, library management, etc. (i.e. layout experience is valuable but somewhat less important)

Very “hands-on” engineer:

Moderate or above soldering skills (very comfortable with SMT to 0603)

Moderate or above assembly skills with common tools like wrenches, sockets, hex keys, screwdrivers, etc.

Excellent writing skills in English; a critical aspect of this role is writing professional reports that convey technical information such that a customer’s project manager and/or contracts manager can easily understand why they should approve AMC’s request to make a change

Location: on site at our headquarters in Camarillo, CA (841 Avenida Acaso)

What you’ll be doing:

You are a doer. It’s probably the reason why you became an engineer. There’s just something about that “Eureka!” moment when you find the solution to a problem. Now you’ve worked enough to know or have a strong inkling that power conversion might be your passion. Unlike at other companies, at AMC you’ll be involved with projects for their entire design lifecycle: from concept to delivery, cradle to grave. You’ll work alongside more experienced team members to help answer questions and reduce risk, but a very large part of the design will be all yours. You’ll be heavily involved in design, prototyping, build, test, and delivery.Very quickly you’ll be pulled into helping with project planning and coordinating with vendors. You’ll be supporting legacy product and trying to make sense of documentation from ages ago. Sometimes you’ll be writing technical reports. Sometimes you’ll be in the lab with a soldering iron in one hand and an oscilloscope probe in the other. Sometimes you’ll be nose-to-your-computer screen drawing a schematic. It’s an engineer’s dream, if you’re a smart, passionate, hardworking professional. We can’t wait to have you join the team.

The best part about this job is that you’ll be part of actually producing something. Not much is made in the USA anymore, so this is a unique opportunity. The best design engineers are those who first learned how things are built. You’ll need to be able to move around in tight spaces, gather information, walk up/down a flight of stairs several times daily, and occasionally lift/carry 25lbs all without interrupting the flow of production. Imagine how awesome you’re going to be!

So, what are you waiting for? Send us an email or give us a call. We’re waiting for you and excited to have you join the team!
