What you’ll be doing
As a member of the U.S. Data Strategy team, you’ll work in a fast-paced environment where you will be responsible for formulating system scope and objectives, gathering requirements, convert business requirements into technical requirements based on the architecture and ETL guidelines. The role performs tasks of technical depth and breadth, validating and documenting business requirements for assigned projects to ensure the maximization of operational efficiency, and ensuring project control procedures and policies are executed.
The Senior Data Analyst determines methods and approaches to projects, providing business support relative to the development, analysis and identification of process changes or system enhancements. You execute Data Analysis responsibilities related to the setup and management of identified data sources to feed our central data hub repository, work with developers to ensure naming conventions and modeling standards are utilized when bringing new data sources into the hub. Additionally, you ensure documentation of data and processes is maintained on a timely basis and is appropriate for the intended audience and develop a clear understanding of business-related data and apply analytic knowledge to high-priority challenges across all functional areas. Become an expert on what data is available for reporting. The role uses judgement and autonomy on day to day tasks, providing operational support for projects after implementation including problem resolution and recommendations to ensure ongoing success. The role proactively addresses problems within the scope of responsibility and identifies areas for possible improvements. You collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to understand the purpose of data collected, with the goal to solve business problems through rigorous data analysis and experimentation. You conduct thoughtful and productive conversations with the business owners before and during requirements gathering, escalate issues to leadership while offering solutions.

How you’ll succeed
Solution Design - Build client-focused solutions that meet business requirements. Prepare and validate solution design documents around areas such as scope clarification, solution requirements, and quality assurance.
Understanding and Documenting Requirements - Work closely with business partners to gather complex business requirements and facilitate solution design discussions to ensure you meet project needs. Build strong relationships, lead discussions, listen and ask the right questions to ensure solutions meet requirements.
Leading and Mentoring – Support end-to-end project implementation as a subject matter expert and provide guidance to a diverse team of technology and project professionals. Maintain a collaborative work environment and support team members to resolve organizational, operational, and process problems.
Who you are
You can demonstrate 5-7 years’ experience within Data Analysis with a solid background in Data Profiling, Data Lineage, STTM (source and target mapping/ETL mapping), Data Warehousing Concepts and an understanding of Data models, preferably in financial domain. You have a strong ETL and Data Warehouse background with previous experience developing complex solutions based on business requirements, and translating them into functional specifications. You possess programming skills with Python or Java language in addition to solid SQL skills with an ability to build complex SQL queries from scratch to pull and analyze data. Proficiency with commonly used Business Intelligence tools, e.g. Alteryx, SQL, Tableau, Power BI, Business Objects, and knowledge around how to retrieve data efficiently as well as the differences and nuances between on-premise and Azure environments is desired. You have the knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within data analytics, data governance, and business intelligence.
You have a degree/diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related field of study.

You have a degree/diploma in Computer Science, Business, and/or a related field, and you’ve spent at least three years in a BSC role leading projects and designing solutions.
It’s an asset if you have experience with Agile methodologies and Application and/or Architecture Development.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of 90,000- 115000 for the New York City market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
