Salary: $56,650-$68,958 DOE annual salary Full Time - 12 Months

POSITION: Student Advisor - Yuma Campus

EMPLOYER: Student Choice High School

SUPERVISOR: Primary Evaluator- Principal; (District Department Oversight- Administrator for Mentoring and Community Partnerships)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: $56,650-$68,958 DOE annual salary Full Time - Year-Round Calendar

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

This is an on-site position with eligibility for temporary telework based on eligible criteria noted in the Employee Handbook and prior approval by the Supervisor.

For positions outside Maricopa County, travel and overnight stay could be required for participation in district-level, onsite professional development, training, and meetings at designated locations within the Greater Phoenix area. (Compensation will be provided for travel, food, and lodging.)

JOB SUMMARY:The role of the Student Advisor at Student Choice High School serves as a champion for students needing wrap-around services and an alternative pathway to their high school diploma. This dynamic individual understands alternative education and strongly advocates for underprivileged and underserved youth and young adults. Utilizing the National Alternative Education Associations Exemplary Practices as the standard for excellence, the Student Advisor promotes and enhances the overall mission, vision, and culture of the organization; engages in professional development and program evaluation with all stakeholders to foster continuous improvement; adheres to all policies and procedures benefiting the success of the organization and all stakeholders; assists Principal to support campus staff and performs tasks in the development and continuous implementation of a high school program, which promotes the educational well-being of each student in the school.

Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the Student Advisor monitors individual student progress, encourages high academic performance, provides long-term career and academic planning through the use of state-mandated Education and Career Action Plans (ECAPs)/Student Success Plans (SSPs), provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school advisory program that addresses academic and career development for all students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mentoring/College/Career Advocacy:

Maintains current and appropriate personal and college/career resources for students.

Uses the majority of time providing direct services through the Student Success Plan.

Oversees program management, system support, and mentoring accountability.

Assists all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic and career goals /plans through individual ECAP (Education & Career Action Planning)/Student Success Plans (SSPs) planning.

Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with meeting all graduation requirements and referring them to remediation opportunities where necessary.

Provides individual and group academic advice to students with identified concerns and needs.

Consults and collaborates effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified academic concerns and needs.

Assists with student transcript audits and completion of graduation requirements.

Community Outreach:

Partner with local high schools for student enrollment referrals and develop pathways for students seeking credit recovery.

Develops local community partnerships to sustain program resources and student opportunities.

Campus Events:

Conducts Walk-In and scheduled registration with all students new to the Student Choice High School district

Conducts regularly scheduled life skills and career-focused workshops

Data Analysis:

Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data.

Collects and analyzes data to guide program direction and emphasis; reports results during the Benchmark process.

Measures results of the school advisory program activities and shares results as appropriate in the Benchmark Report.

Monitors student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and directs appropriate interventions.

Professional:

Participates in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.

Uses available technology resources to enhance the school advisory program.

Supports the philosophy, core values, mission, and vision of Student Choice.

Works as part of a collaborative District/Campus team and projects collegiality and ability to inspire trust.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county, and city statutes, rules, policies, and procedures

Knowledge of applicable SCHS District and departmental policies and procedures

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public, and others having business with the school district

Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications

Knowledge of high school Alternative Education

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

Bachelors Degree in education or related field.

Three years experience in educational-related fields.

Experience working with at-risk youth and families.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Willingness to flex hours as needed.

Must be able to provide own transportation.

Desired:

Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Masters Degree.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Arizona Drivers License.

Valid AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require:stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Medium Work:Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
