The Ohio State University College of Education and Human Ecology seeks a Temporary Research Aide for a post at the Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy, to provide 10 hours of support weekly for the Preschoolers’ Language and Use of Media (PLUM) research team. This is a one year contract.

The purpose of this position is to assist the Program Coordinator in recruiting, enrolling, and collecting data from research study participants. The PLUM study is a home visit-based research study where field assessors will meet with caregivers and children between the ages of 3-5, in their homes, to collect data about media use and language development.

The Research Aide position will be responsible for scheduling and conducting home visits with families in the Columbus area. Assisting the Program Coordinator in recruitment efforts at one of our partner sites or virtually. Maintaining communication with study participants as needed. This role will keep accurate log of research activities completed, incentives distributed, next steps to follow. Submit data with timeliness and accuracy.

Enter data that was collected and clean program data assigned, from multiple data files and sources under the guidance of the Program Coordinator. Spot, report, and correct inaccuracies in the underlying data. Participates in ongoing training and reliability exercises for assessments, observations, and data policies. The Research Aide will maintain reliability with assessment tools. Maintain accurate record keeping and timely submission of mileage reimbursement. Taking initial inventory and updating inventory of materials and supplies on an ongoing basis. Preparing incentive materials such as children’s books for home visits. Other duties as assigned.

The Research Aide position require satisfactory performance evaluations, including the ability to work in a professional manner with colleagues, study participants (children and parents) and, if applicable, recruitment site partners. You must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. Must participate in online and on-site (Crane Center) training led by Project Coordinator. This position will be reimbursed for transportation expenses related to home visits, that meet OSU assessor travel policies. Because data will be collected during home visits, scheduling will be flexible to meet the needs of families. Some weekend and evening work availability will be required.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening. Post-hire onboarding requirements will include (but are not limited to) CITI Training, OCCRA

Minimum Qualification required:

High School graduate or Associate Degree required. 0-1 years of relevant experience required. You must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. The ability to pay attention to multiple priorities and changing circumstances. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated technological skills, including the ability to use tablets for data collection. Basic administrative skills and professional communication utilizing technology. Ability to work independently; self-motivated. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
