Job Description
SwimRVA is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Marketing & Communications Intern. This unique role will help build the voice of Richmond's non-profit community hub for aquatics in the region. The Marketing & Communications Intern will help create stewardship and brand awareness from the ground up to help connect Richmond with aquatic access and opportunity. They will work alongside the communications team to implement and coordinate all our communications activities and campaigns.
The Marketing & Communications Intern will gain practical experience in various communication and marketing related tasks including social media management, press release and public relations, analyzing campaign strategies, and track performance metrics. This position will also gain knowledge in graphic design, photography, and videography.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design posts to sustain readers' curiosity and create buzz around new and existing services
Stay up to date with changes in all social platforms ensuring maximum effectiveness
Coordinate online conversation with customers and respond to queries
Suggest new ways to attract new customers including promotions and online competitions
Facilitate an optimal posting schedule, considering web traffic and customer engagement metrics
Assist in planning and implementing editorial calendar
Develop and coordinate compelling content through social media and blogs
Develop weekly newsletters for all programs and general organizational developments
Gather graphics and video to assist in developing clear and goal-driven content
Assess and report on the effectiveness of social media and content strategies
Assist in strategies for expos and fairs to acquire new leads
Coordinate real-time content and feedback for events hosted by SwimRVA
All other duties assigned by department heads and management team
Educational and Experience Requirements:
Intern should be studying communications, marketing, or a related field
Computer skills including Microsoft Office software
Familiar with Adobe suite or similar phot and video editing software
Desire to grasp future trends in digital technologies and act proactively
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Detail oriented and ability to multitask
Learning Outcomes and Benefits:
Develop knowledge in social media campaigns as it relates to non-profits

Create materials that can be included in a professional portfolio, including press releases, campaign success and analysis, graphic design materials, Constant Contact announcements, and newsletters

Duration and Compensation:
The internship will run for 11 weeks, from May to August. This position will average 20 hours per week with a pay rate of $16-$19 per hour. Start date can very depending on academic calendar year.
