Job Summary

The Media Integration Technician is responsible for the integration, enhancement, and maintenance of audio-visual displays and interactive elements throughout Naper Settlement. This role supports the development and implementation of multimedia components within exhibitions and other installations. They work with teams across the museum to plan, prepare, and produce multimedia experiences for exhibits, learning experiences, and programs. Additionally, this position involves digital media production, including design, prototyping, programming, and may serve as a museum preparator as needed.

Job Scope

Limited budgetary supervision over operational exhibition projects. No staff supervision responsibilities. Liaise with departments and subject matter experts to support the digital media projects.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

1. RESPONSIBLE for the maintenance, care, troubleshooting, installation and removal of all media integrations throughout Naper Settlement.

2. ENHANCES exhibits and permanent installations with innovative digital media solutions, improving visitor engagement and experience through cutting-edge technology.

3. CONSULTS AND COLLABORATES with lead staff in the creation of exhibition designs, taking into consideration collection, content, digital media, interactives, accessibility, audience, and cultural sensibilities.

4. DEVELOPS design concepts for digital media components and other media integrations. Overseeing the fabrication, installation, and upkeep these items on any on-site exhibits, off-site exhibits, and other installations.

5. MAINTAINS AND INVENTORIES the operational integrity of exhibits/installations by performing regular inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs to ensure optimal performance.

6. TROUBLESHOOTS A/V, AR, VR, API, web, computer, and other equipment or technologies related to integrations ensuring all systems are functioning correctly.

7. PREPARES elevations, schematics, layouts, and other materials for review with appropriate teams, incorporating feedback and completing revisions to meet project specifications.

8. CORDINATES with stakeholders for the final production and delivery of physical or digital designed pieces, ensuring quality and timely delivery.

9. DEVELOPS innovative approaches to engage online and onsite audiences with digital storytelling and exhibits, leveraging multimedia to create compelling narratives.

10. SERVES as content editor for internal and external media.

11. ENSURES that needed technology hardware, software, and data storage and retrieval are requested to Director of Innovation for project needs.

12. NETWORKS with local, regional, and national professional and museum colleagues to stay updated on industry trends and best practices.

13. PERFORMS all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED to work Naperville Heritage Society events that fall on Friday and Saturday evenings; Naper Nights (6 days), Oktoberfest (2 days), All Hallows Eve (2 days) and Howlin at the Moon (2 days).

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

· Excellent computer skills and extensive knowledge of current software and hardware applications and platforms related to A/V, AR, VR, API, web and other relevant technologies.

· Prototyping custom Raspberry pi, Arduino, and other hardware elements required.

· Experience with soldering or basic circuit board configuration required.

· Operational knowledge of Audio Systems, including gain staging and design fundamentals.

· Operational knowledge of Video Systems, including projectors, monitors, and video signal distribution.

· Operational knowledge of Lighting Systems, including DMX lighting control systems and other lighting elements.

· Ability to operate audio-video control systems, such as AMX or Creston.

· Ability to design interactive and engaging spaces and match appropriate delivery mode or technology.

· Working knowledge of MS Office, Google products, Adobe Suite, and willingness to learn new programs as needed.

· Experience with developing RFPs, contracts, budgets, and schedules, as well as tracking and managing assets, including rights and permissions for outsourced material.

· Museum experience preferred with a background in digital or media production, museum studies, or related field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with donors, the public, volunteers, staff and Naperville Heritage Society members is important.

Essential Functions

3. Ability to walk, sit, or stand for an hour or more at a time.

4. Ability to lift or carry objects weighing at least 25 pounds.

5. Ability to operate or observe office equipment for an hour or more at a time.

6. Ability to distinguish colors.

7. Ability to use a keyboard to enter, retrieve or transfer words or data.

8. Ability to closely examine computer screen or written reports.

9. Ability to read, comprehend and speak English and be able to demonstrate twelfth grade reading skill.

10. Ability to work in an area that may be uncomfortable due to temperature variation, noise, odors, or other conditions.

11. Ability to work with tools when fabricating or installing exhibitions.

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification

Bachelor’s degree required in communications, design, art, museum studies, computer science, or related field. At least four years of experience in exhibit design, fabrication, or interactives for museums preferred. Demonstrated proficiency with innovative graphic design. Knowledge and understanding of current best practices for the design of inclusive exhibits that are accessible to all. Demonstrated success in creating digital and print materials for museums. Experience in project management preferred.Company Description
