Project Manager

A Project Manager is responsible for managing customer orders for equipment manufactured by employer, from the initial bid until final customer payment and satisfactory completion. The Project Manager is expected to take a leadership role with the customer upon the initiation of a project, and coordinate with the various departments within the company to provide typical Engineered system deliverables to the customer such as scopes of supply, design drawings, schedules, and key milestone dates such as delivery and installation/start-up.

The Project manager also complies with Company policies and practices to ensure timely completion of tasks required by the Finance, Administrative, Engineering, Sales, Production, Service, and Procurement departments.

The Project Manager works under limited supervision and is expected to maintain communications with customers and deliver projects to the customer’s satisfaction while optimizing the project’s financial performance.

Review customer orders and Company proposals and budgets and resolve any discrepancies.

Communicate extensively with the customer at all phases of the project to ensure they are informed of the order status and to respond to their valid requests as promptly and completely as possible. Defines detailed specifications with customer and negotiates variances in configuration and timing to preserve and improve project overall profitability and schedule.

Create project documentation for internal use by the project team per the PM procedures

Successfully complete project schedules, project specifications, translate and convey customer requirements to the appropriate departments, and keep the various departments focused on the project completion milestones on a continual basis

Coordinate and schedule project tasks with Engineering Manager, Production Planning, Procurement, and Service Manager, as well as outside subcontractors in certain situations

Contribute to project success by completing assigned tasks on time and completely

Review and verify that projects are within budget by performing periodic cost analysis and reporting the results in accordance with internal Finance dept. requirements

Conduct reviews at project completion to identify procedures and methods that can be improved

Travel required. Periodic travel for customer meetings, jobsite fact-finding, installation/start-up support is required. Project Manager must have the ability to maintain control of multiple projects while working away from the home office.

Project Manager will at times be required to manage procurement from outside suppliers and contractors as required (large subcontractors)

Understanding and ensuring compliance with the plant health and safety regulations.

As the Project leader, the Project Manager must recognize when issues do not fall exactly within the various supporting departments’ area of responsibilities, and must make informed decisions regarding those issues. Communicates with executive management and administration for guidance and approval to advance initiatives

Learns the Company technology and customer application in order to provide useful feedback to the Engineering and Technical Service departments in order to ensure the project delivers complete customer satisfaction of the equipment provided

Reviews drawings provided by Engineering and compares to the project scope of work prior to presenting or discussing with customer. Is able to answer basic technical questions from the customer during design and installation.

Performs other tasks and duties as necessary or asked of them by the Company.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud, particularly in a customer setting.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This is largely a sedentary role; however, fine motor skill is required.

Travel

This position requires up to 30% travel. Some of the travel is international.

Required Education and Experience

A Project Manager must have a basic engineering understanding of electrical motor/PLC controls, hydraulic and pneumatic controls and fluid handling hardware for Industrial machinery and equipment. Experience with Project management in a design-to-build environment is required. Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with three to five years Project Management experience. Competency using Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and MS Project is required; Solidworks or AutoCAD experience is beneficial.

The ability to work effectively on a project team and to handle multiple independent projects

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required due to the requirement to interface with customers as a representative of a world-leading firm involved with designing and building production-line machinery.
