The Director, Revenue Accounting is a key leader for the Medical Division. This position will lead our global revenue accounting operations for the Medical Division, with an emphasis on software revenue recognition and standalone sell price allocation. This key role will provide leadership, support to the business, and day-to-day management and oversight of all aspects relating to revenue accounting. This position reports to the VP, Finance. This position partners closely with corporate technical accounting as well as compliance teams. This person is responsible for building and developing a team within our Medical Finance function to provide excellent service levels to the division, delivering on month-end close responsibilities, maintaining internal controls, and providing technical accounting guidance for complex transactions.

Primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Partner effectively with the Commercial leadership team to drive bookings and revenue goals through strategic decision making while ensuring compliance with internal policies and GAAP

Key member of the finance leadership team. Goals will include partnering with the business, accurately reporting revenue, and driving value creation for the business

Build, manage, and develop revenue accounting team that serves the Medical division to perform complex accounting. Strategically design and adjust team structure as needs evolve

Attracts, develops, engages, and aligns talent in the Revenue Accounting department, including importing and exporting talent throughout Stryker

Own the development and implementation of revenue policies (within the confines of the Stryker revenue recognition policy) and procedures including review of contracts to ensure proper revenue recognition

Oversee accounting research and implementation of new revenue accounting standards and ensure all policies are documented and applied globally

Drive the month and quarter-end close processes for the revenue team while supporting FP&A in building bookings and revenue forecasts

Serve as a core team member for strategic initiatives (potential M&A, operating plans, profitability analysis)

Function as subject matter expert on ASC 606, with special emphasis on software revenue recognition.

Research GAAP and apply to transactions as needed. Document assessments and conclusions in accounting position memos.

Operates with honesty and integrity which is consistent with Stryker’s values, and sets cultural expectations throughout the organization

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required

CPA Certification or equivalent preferred

10+ years of experience, with leadership and specific complex revenue recognition analysis experience highly preferred

Thorough comprehension and working knowledge of U.S. GAAP revenue recognition rules. Experience with ASC 606

Deep understanding and demonstrated experience in proper revenue accounting processes under current revenue recognition methodologies for software, hardware, and multiple arrangements

SAP and RevPro experience is highly preferred

Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to understand, apply and explain complex accounting theories, concepts, and processes in ways that non-technical partners can understand. Ability to interact with senior management and influence outcomes across all levels of the organization

Experience communicating and articulating an issue or point of view to a varied audience both verbally and in writing

Experienced at working effectively across multiple levels of an organization and building successful cross functional partnerships

Influential leader that can implement change and is motivated by the challenge of a fast-paced, high-growth global environment

Proven ability to lead and motivate teams. Achieves organizational focus on key priorities, provides clear direction, delegates, actively communicates and coaches. A committed mentor, people developer and team builder

Experience in diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems

Ability to meet the rigorous deadlines of a growth company; ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities, coordinate and manage multiple projects

Fluency in English required

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to travel domestically for business meetings, workshops and leadership meetings

May involve prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking as appropriate

May be required to move equipment up to 25 pounds, reach, push, or pull in order to accomplish job accountabilities

Coordination of eye, hand, and/or foot movement with an ability to grasp by hand

Cognitive demands to include visual and auditory discrimination/memory, reading ability, and memory retention ability

Basic skills - Time management including prioritizing work and keeping detailed and accurate records, project management, interpersonal skills, reports and budgets, re-engineering, customer service, stress management, people management, conflict management, customer service, ISO standards, statistics, auditing, financial systems, manufacturing process, organization structure, and basic office and computer equipment skills to include MS Windows and MS Office

Stryker specific skills – Requires the ability to learn Stryker products and systems, and adhere to quality standards and policies set forth in employee handbook

Must be able to exercise discretion and use independent judgment

Must be able to possess written and oral communication, including presenting in group meeting settings

Must be able to work with autonomy, managing time and seeing tasks through to completion with minimal supervision

Must have the ability to prioritize work and keep detailed and accurate records

Must possess unwavering ethics & integrity in a competitive and demanding work environment

Compensation:

$129,000- $286,500 salary plus bonus eligible + generally eligible for short-term and long-term financial incentives + benefits. Actual minimum and maximum may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.

Travel Percentage: 20%
