Position Summary:
This position performs engineering testing and validation for new and existing engine development platforms. Testing may occur in laboratory setting or in-field. This position must have strong engine knowledge and experience, with exceptional hands-on abilities. The focus of this position is on development of reciprocating diesel and/or gas engine systems.
Key Accountabilities:
Prepare, support and perform commissioning of prototype engines/vehicles and early production units together with the customer and sub-contractors for various wheeled and tracked vehicle applications
Execute engine validation testing in regard to performance, emissions, sound, vibration, cooling, etc…
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair field issues for various engine applications
Coordinate with Engine development teams to remedy field issues remotely
Perform field inspections of components and author reports to share with development partners
Interpret wiring diagrams to diagnose and repair in-field electrical systems
Troubleshoot CAN communication systems
Provide field support for After Sales and Applications departments whenever complex issues require engineering support
Communicate and consult with Engineering and Design departments worldwide
Provide support for production and train production staff whenever complex issues require engineering support
Maintains organized record of work hours by job number for budgeting & auditing purposes
Mentor and train less experienced engineers
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Promote a compliance culture and live the latter and the spirit of the Rolls Royce Code of Conduct
Perform special projects as required
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Automotive Engineering (or equivalent), and 5 years engineering validation/testing experience
U.S. Citizenship required as this position occasionally will be working under a government contract
Ability to bend down, stand over, lay down and complete work tasks within the tight confines typical of marine engine compartments and/or engine rooms for long periods of time
Ability to lift, push, pull weights in the 20-60 lb range
Willingness to travel on short notice
Willingness to travel more than 50%
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a diesel technician performing troubleshooting or diagnostic analysis
Independent problem-solving abilities
Experience with engine-specific instrumentation, data acquisition systems, signal processing and data management
Strong oral and written communication skills
Proficient with PC and MS Office Suite
