This is a regular full-time position, 40 hours per week

Position Summary:

The prep cook is responsible for assisting the cook and sous chef and working alongside volunteers to prepare and serve food for up to 40 people. The prep cook helps maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen and helps ensure meal quality and consistency. The prep cook also assists volunteers to make sure they are complying with sanitation and safety protocols. The Travis Mills Foundation kitchen provides locally sourced food prepared from scratch whenever possible.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Preparation and serving of meals for up to 40 people.

Cooking and producing high-quality plates both in taste and presentation.

Ensure that the kitchen operates in an efficient manner that meets our quality standards.

Work with volunteers to ensure dishes, dining room, and kitchen are in order and comply with sanitation and safety protocols.

Resourcefully solve any issues that arise and seize control of any problematic situations that may become apparent.

Maintain a positive and professional approach with co-workers, guests, staff, and volunteers.

Process all deliveries including placing delivery items in the proper location, updating the inventory checklist, and, updating the chef on items that are running low.

Keep open communication between yourself and all kitchen staff.

Help and prepare food for events as needed.

Assist in developing and understanding the full importance of special food diets, allergens, and prevention of cross-contamination.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

Knowledge of using various cooking equipment

Knowledge of various methods, recipes, and procedures for cooking items.

CPR and Blood Born Pathogen trained for handling emergencies and providing solutions.

Knowledge of best kitchen practices in prepping, cooking, and serving meals

Computer knowledge of ordering and inventory tracking.

Degree in Culinary Arts or Sciences a plus or training/experience in food service.

Experience working in a fast-paced commercial kitchen with little experience help.

The mission of serving Military Veterans and their families.

SERV-Safe Certified or willing to acquire SERV-Safe Certificate.

Helpful to have familiarity with vegan, keto, paleo, and gluten-free diet choices.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Regularly required to reach.

Frequently is required to stand and lift.

Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.

Occasionally exposed to fumes and airborne particles.
