As part of our BAE Systems Jacksonville Ship Repair (JSR) team, you will be working alongside some of the industry's top talent on the forefront of technology. We are currently hiring for an experienced Heavy Haul / Heavy Lift Manager for transport projects using cranes and Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs).

The Heavy Haul / Heavy Lift Manger will be a key member of the JSR team and responsible for the execution of onsite operations and maintenance using cranes, SPMTs and rigging equipment. Working as part of the Waterfront Operations team, you will be responsible for the full life-cycle within a project, such as working to industry standards, following detailed RAMS (Risk Assessment and Method Statement) and engineering drawings, mobilization/demobilization of equipment and operating the SPMTs.

The selectee will manage the off-loading and transportation of equipment, prefabricated structures, and heavy vessels to various foundations or staging areas within the shipyard. The role requires the establishment and maintenance of a comprehensive crane, Rigging, and SPMT Program while interfacing with all stakeholders, and daily coordination of heavy lift and heavy haul activities. The Heavy Haul/Heavy Lift Manager will provide leadership and accountability for safety, accident prevention, and environmental protection programs. Responsibilities also include preparing reports and forecasts related to SPMT, rigging, and crane operations, actively participating in safety meetings, and supervising heavy haul and heavy lift personnel and activities. The position demands a proactive approach and coordination with stakeholders to ensure that all operations are executed according to project specifications and safety standards. In addition to overseeing transport activities, the Heavy Haul / Heavy Lift Manager will support the Heavy Lift Engineer in developing lift plans and heavy haul plans, providing technical guidance to subordinate personnel, and ensuring that heavy haul routes are adequate for transportation.

As the Heavy Haul / Heavy Lift Manager, you will be responsible for:

Supervising a team of operators and maintainers.

Working with the Transfer Supervisors and Heavy Lift Engineer(s) to plan and execute loading/transport operations per movement plans.

Supporting field construction operations related to rigging and lifting operations

Preparing reports and forecasts for SPMT, rigging, and crane operations

Determining crane requirements for the project

Determining rigging equipment and materials for the project

Ensuring Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMT’s) are operated in a safe and efficient manner.

Evaluating loads requiring movement on SPMT equipment and determine risk categorization.

Ensuring all safety, health and environmental protocols and procedures are adhered to.

Ensuring periodic preventative and corrective maintenance is completed.

Ensuring that all equipment is maintained and in good working order including adherence to company policy and procedures.

Cleaning, maintaining and inspecting equipment for defective components and notifying management of any defects or malfunctions.

Confirming equipment is operated to the relevant standards and instructions.

Moving loads in line with project requirements.

Ensuring SPMT’s are inspected before and after each use to ensure safety and compliance with regulations, and determination of corrective maintenance requirements.

Loading and unloading cargo in a precise and controlled manner; understanding and demonstrating proper load securement for transport.

Supervising assembly, disassembly and reconfiguration of SPMT equipment.

Supervising the loading, unloading, assembling and disassembling assigned SPMTs and auxiliary equipment.

Evaluating transportation routing requirements for adequate clearances and soil conditions.

Assisting crane and rigging crews with all tasks for site heavy equipment lifts and movements.

Communicating effectively with management, Project Managers, crew members, and clients.

Validating the completion of daily reports and maintenance logs.

Performing other related duties as assigned or required.

Typical Education and Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

B.S. Degree in Engineering or similar and 9+ years of experience in crane, rigging, and SPMT operations and maintenance; or 15+ years of experience in crane, rigging, and SPMT operations and maintenance in lieu of a degree

Experience operating SPMTs or similar heavy transporters. Both on-site operations (to include performing basic maintenance, inspections etc.) and pre-operation planning, providing advice, guidance, and when required supporting Project Managers or Project Engineers in the engineering and planning stages of projects.

Must be able to read, understand and follow engineered drawings.

Advanced understating of maintenance and repair work.

Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations.

Experience troubleshooting fluid and mechanical systems.

Understanding of rigging and securing best practices.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.

Strong attention to detail and precision.

Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.

Must be able to read/understand transportation drawings.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, as well as a criminal record check.

Preferred Skills and Education

What will put you ahead

Experience operating Cometto brand SPMTs

Understanding hydraulic suspensions, valve/sensor assignment in accordance with engineered transport plans.

Working Conditions:

Day Shift positions.

Able to stand for extended periods (8 hours min)

Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Training may be conducted on site and/or in Italy (SPMT factory).
