We are a large and growing emergency and specialty hospital located in beautiful Portland, Maine. Our facility is home to board-certified experts in Surgery, Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Cardiology, and Dermatology.

What You’ll Do

As a Veterinary Technician Assistant in Oncology, you’ll support patients through their cancer care journey—helping ensure each visit is as safe, smooth, and compassionate as possible. You’ll work directly with our oncology clinicians to assist with treatments, diagnostics, and appointments, while supporting the team with organization and communication.

In this role, you will:

Hold and monitor patients during chemotherapy treatments while wearing full PPE

Assist with CT scans, biopsies, ultrasounds, radiographs, and oncology appointments

Support the diagnostic process by preparing and assisting with bloodwork and imaging

Help maintain accurate medical records, treatment sheets, and controlled drug logs

Perform proper restraint, TPRs, and pain assessments

Prepare and fill medications and assist with client call-backs and discharges

Enter diagnostic summaries, request forms, charges, and prescriptions into EzyVet and SmartFlow

Support client communication, scheduling, and procedure estimates

Cross-train with other departments to expand your skills and support hospital flow Anticipated ScheduleThis is a full-time position.

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM

Some holidays are required

Compensation

Starting at $22/hr, commensurate with experience

Requirements

Previous experience in a veterinary clinical setting preferred

Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills

Confidence handling and restraining patients for procedures and diagnostics

Understanding of EzyVet, SmartFlow, or similar platforms is a plus

Willingness to work in full PPE during chemotherapy sessions

A desire to grow, learn, and collaborate in a high-touch specialty environment

Physical ability to lift up to 45 lbs and assist with larger patients
