Job Title: Patient Access Specialist
Location: Manhattan, NY
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM or 9:30 AM-5:30 PM
Training: Initial Epic training during the first week (8:00 AM-4:00 PM)
Overview:
The Patient Access Specialist is a highly visible, front-facing role responsible for the reception of patients, families, and healthcare providers. As a key representative of the organization, this position requires expertise in customer service, registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and adherence to Standards of Care. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver outstanding customer service to patients, families, and healthcare professionals
Prioritize patient flow to ensure timely and efficient check-in/check-out processes
Verify insurance coverage and obtain benefits; follow up on authorizations when needed
Triage and respond to incoming phone calls; schedule patient appointments
Interview patients to collect demographic, personal, and medical history information
Collect co-pays and other payments; scan and manage patient documentation in the system
Address and resolve patient, visitor, and customer inquiries
Perform additional related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED (required)
Minimum of 2 years' experience in a healthcare or customer service role
Strong working knowledge of healthcare systems and insurance processes
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
Experience using Epic or similar EHR systems
Familiarity with medical terminology
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to multitask and work collaboratively in a team environment
Demonstrated ability to calculate payments, including basic arithmetic and percentages
Positive attitude and professional demeanor
