What we're looking for: The Deputy Editor (DE) is a professional staff editor who works in concert with the journal’s team of academic editors to peer review and publish high quality science in the Journal Radiology: Artificial Intelligence under the direction of the Editor.

What you'll do:
Be responsible for the selection, revision, and rejection of proffered manuscripts in collaboration with the academic Deputy Editors for final approval by the Editor. The DE ensures efficient, transparent, and accurate peer-review and editorial assessment of manuscripts within established turnaround time goals.
Manage and advance editorial decisions within the content management system.
Make well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.
Be responsible for scholarly and non-scholarly content published in, or in connection with the Journal including: the accuracy and veracity of the scientific and academic content and the scientific credibility of manuscripts accepted for publication in Radiology: Artificial Intelligence, including ensuring that any such research has been conducted in accordance with industry standard methodology and practice and has complied in full with all applicable guidelines and ethical standards.
Solicit editorials and reviews.
Discuss and make recommendations regarding manuscripts and reviewer comments with the editorial board during weekly meetings and meets with the editorial board during the Society’s annual meeting and at other times when necessary to review policies and procedures.
Serve as an RSNA representative at society meetings, occasionally presenting on its behalf.
Foster journal awareness through visits to radiology departments and invited presentations at institutions and scientific meetings.
Work on other projects as assigned.
What you'll need:
Publishing experience: The DE shall have a record of authorship of scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals. Publishing experience also includes having served as a reviewer, editor, publication manager, and/or science communicator.
Education: The DE will possess a graduate degree (PhD or MD). Preference will be given to expertise in machine learning/artificial intelligence or medical imaging. The DE should demonstrate a thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field as well as a breadth of interest in scientific research, both within and beyond their specialty.
Judgement and Accountability: The DE must possess solid and sound judgment skills and the willingness to be held accountable for the editorial decisions rendered through the publishing process. The DE should demonstrate the ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted to the journal from different areas of this discipline.
Professionalism: The DE must be able to uphold the reputation of RSNA Journals, the ethical guidelines for scholarly publishing, and the rigors and timelines of scientific publishing practices with diplomacy and professionalism.
Communication: The DE must have excellent written and spoken communication and interpersonal skills.
