Assists the Sr.

Manager, Transportation in management principles including efficient work scheduling, performance monitoring, counseling, correction and discipline, as needed.

May be required to maintain duties as a Transportation Services Supervisor performing Division/ADA, Radio, and Street assignments.

Other responsibilities include effectively communicating job expectations and providing direct oversight to COTA's Flex Operator position.

May serve in an acting capacity in the absence of the Sr.

Manager, Transportation, providing backup support, as needed.

Performs other duties in alignment with the COTA Strategic Plan and in support of the organization's vision to Move Every Life Forward.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Serves as the lead supervisor in the day-to-day management of incumbent's assigned area – Division/ADA, Radio, or Street operations and answer any questions that may arise; Oversees all Flex Operators and provides daily management of COTA's first-and-last mile and on-demand service; Supervises and manages daily operations of fixed route service ensuring compliance with city, local, state and federal laws governing transit services; communicates with the city's police, safety and fire departments, as well as other local entities whereby service may be affected; maintains courteous and informative communications with the public and passengers pertaining to COTA service, schedules and necessary changes, due to emergencies and special events/circumstances; ensures minimum variation in scheduled bus and on-demand service; assures passenger safety through proper management of street operations; Supervises, evaluates and counsels assigned staff; takes necessary steps to coach and develop employees through effective and thorough training and leading by example; Works closely with the Sr.

Manager, Transportation in coordinating schedules and assigning work of current Transportation Services Supervisors, Bus Operators and Flex Operators (vacations, absences, etc.); continues to enforce departmental policies and procedures and apply disciplinary action (i.e., employee attendance, accidents, performance/conduct, etc.) through the use of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and employee policy manual; exercises sound judgment as it pertains to the discipline and grievance process and attends grievances and arbitrations, as required; Assists in overseeing and managing the complaint process (e.g., third party, internal and customer complaints) for the Transportation Department and ensures timely and effective resolutions; makes recommendations to the Sr.

Manager, Transportation; Manages operating issues that occur as a result of vehicle breakdowns, accidents and missed or late routes; makes appropriate decisions regarding restoring or maintaining service; Conducts ride checks and pre-trip checks to evaluate operator efficiency; monitors performance and maintains accurate records; Actively engages in staff selection by participating in the interview process; recommends potential employees for hire and provides/coordinates relative training, as necessary; Regular, predictable and punctual attendance required.

Supports Sr.

Manager, Transportation with bus operator service change sign-up three (3) times per year; Must be flexible and willing to work varying schedules, including weekends, as required; and, Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Must meet the requirements of the Transportation Services Supervisor position including the possession of an Associate's degree.

Must have at least three (3) years' experience as a current Transportation Services Supervisor performing Division/ADA, On-Demand, Radio and/or Street assignments.

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered.

Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Airbrake & Passenger endorsements; Must possess all relevant training and certifications required for a Transportation Services Supervisor; and Must have the ability to obtain TSI certification, if applicable.
