Desk Clerk
Location - Croft House - Aiken, SC (Sunday - Tuesday)
***PART-TIME - 27 hours per week working nights***
Summary
Responsible for providing a management presence during hours when the Community Manager or Administrative Assistant are not physically on duty. Customarily, hours of work are scheduled during the evening period and during the early morning, as well as during the day and night periods of weekends and holidays.
I. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide Reception and Security services.
Must be familiar with all residents.
Accepts turnover information from Community manager, Administrative Assistant, or the Desk Clerk on the preceding shift. Makes initial entries on the Daily Log and assumes custody responsibility for premises.
Notes significant data from turnover and sets up schedule for activities indicated for the shift, giving appropriate attention to special checking on sick residents, if indicated. Records log entries describing shifts activities and any unusual events or circumstances.
Answer the lobby phone and monitor the residents emergency signal panel in addition to the fire and burglar alarms, responding as is appropriate. In case of emergency, attempt to reach the Community Manager or Administrative Assistant after reporting fire, police, etc. If not available, an effort will be made to reach the Regional Property Manager. Judgment must be used in deciding if other residents should be involved. In such cases, Desk Clerk should seek the advice for the Community Manager or other responsible authority.
Reports equipment malfunction, burned out lights, defects in security devices (unlocked doors, broken windows, leaking or seeping fluids, etc.) according to apparent degree of hazard, by notifying immediately or routinely on the log report and turnover.
Special emphasis is place on the confidentiality of personal information concerning residents whether requested in person or by phone. A courteous inquiry as to the identity of the inquirer and reason for the request will usually help the Desk Clerk with the decision. If a question remains, the inquirer should courteously be referred to the Community Manager or Board Chairman. Engaging in gossip concerning residents, or participating in hurtful rumors may be grounds for dismissal.

IV. EDUCATIONAL AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
V. LANGUAGE/MATHEMATICAL/REASONING ABILITY/OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, residents/clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detail but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
