A Brief Overview
Responsible for maintaining and optimizing the health system's charge description master (CDM), ensuring compliance with industry regulations, maximizing revenue integrity, and supporting accurate billing practices. This role involves collaboration with clinical, financial, and administrative teams to ensure proper charge capture and reimbursement.
What you will do
Maintain and update the chargemaster to ensure accuracy and compliance with CPT, HCPCS, revenue codes, and overall pricing. Ensure that all CPT/HCPCS codes are accurate for each item in the CDM with input from respective ancillary department leader and appropriate source documentation.
Analyze Medicare charge data and conduct peer charge comparisons for benchmarking.
Conduct regular audits of charge descriptions, coding, and billing practices to identify improvement opportunities.
Collaborate with clinical departments to ensure proper charge capture and documentation.
Research Federal and State regulations for issues effecting CDM coding and prepare summary of issues for Health System and department management.
Ensure all routine CDM Change Requests are processed within 2 business days of request. Ensure all CDM Change Requests for large projects (more than 15 items) are processed within 7 business days of receipt.
Ensure the description of the service or supply accurately reflects the intent of the CPT/HCPCS code.
Ensure that the health system price was calculated according to health system policies and exceptions documented.
Ensure that all items in the CDM meet governmental billing regulations and department and health system policies.
Assist in tracking and accountability for charge reconciliation and revenue cycle optimization.
Oversight, analyze and verification of EHR charge procedures – accuracy, build, testing, and operational implementation.
Investigate and resolve charge discrepancies resulting from various audit entities. Engage expert outside CDM consulting firm to review the integrity of the health system CDM annually.
Meet individually with each revenue producing department leaders and/or designees to review that department’s CDM comprehensively for accuracy and appropriateness of charges and with review any new regulatory changes (e.g. CPT & other updates) at minimum once per year.
Coordinate and schedule department-specific educational webinars/training sessions for department leaders and designees in order to ensure expert level understanding of respective charging conventions. Work with department leaders and/or designees to ensure they have the information, education and tools necessary to meet the charge posting, charge reconciliation and charge exception turn-around requirements in accordance with health system policy.
Supports third party vendors tied to Revenue Integrity work.
Qualifications:
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance or health related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a health care field required. Required
Epic certification in at least one module or the ability to obtain certification as directed by EPIC. Required
4-6 years Experience in healthcare business or clinical operations Required
1-3 years Prior Chargemaster experience Required
1-3 years Proficiency in computer data and analysis Required
1-3 years Experience using Microsoft Office products Required
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
