Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to oversee all financial and accounting activities of the organization. The Controller will be responsible for managing the accounting operations, including the production of financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, development of internal controls, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The Controller is a key leader to RMC to drive financial accuracy and provide essential reports to the leadership team and Board of Directors.

Essential Duties

Oversee the preparation and accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Manage all accounting operations, including Grants Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, and Revenue Recognition.

Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.

Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.

Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.

Lead audits (internal and external) and act as the primary contact for auditors.

Supervise and develop the accounting team; provide leadership, training, and growth opportunities.

Assist VP of Finance with financial strategy, planning, and risk analysis.

Reconcile all Corporate entities’ Balance Sheet accounts including all bank accounts, all intercompany accounts, and other.

Manage the bi-weekly payroll process including the journal upload and 403b upload.

Maintain owner/investor relationships by meeting regular reporting requirements.

Cash management of all bank accounts at all properties with the weekly AP disbursements and ensuring all regular tenant deposits are recorded.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong written and verbal communication skills, allowing for clear and succinct communication in a variety of settings (phone, in-person, and email), and with people of various backgrounds and levels, both internally and externally.

Thorough understanding of MS Office, with advanced knowledge of MS Excel.

A strong customer focus, with a dedication to meeting the expectations, needs, and requirements of internal and external customers, successfully gaining their trust and respect.

Flexible, pragmatic problem-solver with ability to analyze and understand complex issues.

Ability to work successfully both independently and with others, building professional working relationships based on mutual trust and respect.

Comprehensive understanding of financial statements, including Operating Statements, Rent Roll, Balance Sheet, and Aged Receivables.

A strong understanding of development, finance, operations, or affordable housing.

Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.

Strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).

CPA or CMA designation strongly preferred.

Minimum of 7-years of progressive accounting experience with leadership role.

Strong knowledge of GAAP and GASB.

Proficiency in accounting software (prefer Yardi).

Experience or strong interest in non-profit organizations.

Experience in Affordable Housing & LIHTC a plus.

Working Conditions

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, such as a computer, photocopiers and telephones.

Regularly communicates both verbally and in writing.

The ability to view a computer screen and utilize a keyboard and mouse for detailed analysis of data and correspondence is required 80-90% of the day.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a workstation.

Must be able to perform tasks in a stationary position, either sitting or standing.

Must be able to alternate between stationary positions as needed.

Occasional travel within Colorado during business hours, however, some out of area and overnight travel may be expected.

Physical Work Environment Employees must be able to meet the physical requirements of the classification and have mobility, balance, coordination, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the functions performed.
