Job Description

Ascend is on a mission to make data engineering delightful. With the Ascend Agentic Data Engineering platform, data teams can move faster, work smarter, and reduce complexity across the entire data pipeline. The platform brings together AI powered ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and observability into one cohesive system, allowing engineers to focus on high-impact work while the platform manages time-consuming operational tasks. We have been named as one of the "Best Places to Work" by Built In for 2025!

As a Field Data Engineer you will provide enterprise-level guidance and support to customers by researching, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving issues to the clients’ satisfaction. We believe the best teams are made from individuals who have a deep passion for customers, love sharing knowledge with their team, and actively seek out environments where they are not the smartest person in the room.

What You'll Do:

Drive Customer Success and Technical Excellence: Act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert for customers, prospects, and internal teams—collaborating with Sales, Engineering, and Product to resolve technical obstacles and improve the platform

Resolve Complex Technical Issues: Take a hands-on approach to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve data pipeline and infrastructure issues, ensuring timely support for global customers across time zones.

Onboard and Enable Prospects During Trials: Deliver onboarding, technical guidance, and hands-on support throughout the trial period to ensure prospects are set up for success and can independently explore key capabilities.

Bridge Customer Feedback and Product Innovation: Capture and prioritize customer feedback and feature requests, partnering with Product and Engineering to influence roadmap decisions and ensure the platform evolves to meet real-world needs.

Manage Escalations with Precision: Partner with engineering to drive resolution of high-priority incidents and deeply technical escalations, ensuring customer impact is minimized and root causes are addressed.

Empower Customers Through Enablement: Proactively contribute to and maintain up-to-date customer-facing documentation and internal knowledge bases to promote self-service and accelerate time-to-value.

What We Look For:

Two to four years in a support role working directly with customers or as a data engineer

Experience with technical support implementing proven techniques that both resolve issues and increase customer satisfaction

Strong written and oral communication, critical thinking, flexibility, self-direction and a team mindset

Experience building complex data pipelines

Experience designing and building cloud-based data solutions including Data Lake, Data Warehouse and/or Lakehouse implementations (ex. S3/GCS/ADLS, Snowflake and/or Databricks)

Deep experience with at least one cloud platform (AWS, GCP, Azure)

Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, data engineering, information technology or relevant experience
