Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join our Colorado Springs legal team. This mid-level role is ideal for a litigation advocate with at least 3 years of experience (family law background strongly preferred) who is ready to hit the ground running. As an Associate Attorney at Brighter Day Law, you will represent clients in a variety of family law cases - such as divorce, child custody, support, and property disputes - handling matters from initial consultation through final resolution. You will take the lead in case strategy, negotiations, and courtroom advocacy, all with a compassionate, trauma-informed, client-first mindset. In line with our settlement-first philosophy, you'll seek amicable solutions to conflicts whenever possible while thoroughly preparing for litigation to protect our clients' interests.

Compensation
Brighter Day Law offers a competitive compensation package for this role. The expected annual compensation range for the Associate Attorney (Colorado Springs) is $95,000 - $130,000, commensurate with experience and performance. In addition to base salary, we also offer performance-based bonuses and opportunities for advancement within the firm.

Manage Cases from Start to Finish: Take ownership of a full caseload of family law matters, managing all aspects from case initiation through settlement, trial, or other resolution.
Client Communication & Support: Foster and maintain excellent relationships with clients through regular, clear communication and a compassionate, trauma-informed approach that helps clients feel heard and supported throughout their case.
Client Counseling & Strategy: Effectively interview and counsel clients to understand their goals and concerns. Provide sound legal advice by explaining options, possible outcomes, and risks, and develop case strategies and ethical solutions that align with each client's needs.
Settlement-Focused Case Preparation: At every stage of a case, prioritize settlement opportunities while preparing thoroughly fo trial. Build strong legal arguments and gather evidence so that if litigation is necessary, the case is ready for a favorable, cost-effective outcome for the client.
Legal Analysis: Analyze case-specific facts, financial documents, and legal issues to develop persuasive arguments and creative solutions. Conduct legal research as needed to support case strategy.
Collaborate with Experts: Regularly consult with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and witnesses to exchange information, negotiate terms, and move cases forward effectively.
Mediation & Court Appearances: Represent clients in mediation sessions, settlement conferences, and other case-related meetings, advocating for their best interests. Appear in court for hearings and trials, delivering confident and prepared oral arguments before judges and magistrates.
Document Preparation: Draft, review, and finalize legal documents - including pleadings, motions, agreements, orders, and parenting plans - accurately and on time. Ensure all filings and paperwork comply with court requirements. Assist clients with the execution of agreements and court orders, guiding them through any necessary steps.
Case Monitoring: Conduct regular (e.g., weekly) case reviews to monitor progress, deadlines, and next steps. Adjust strategies as needed to account for new developments.
Deadline Compliance: Meet all deadlines and procedural requirements, including court deadlines, statutory filing dates, discovery timelines, and internal firm deadlines. Ensure nothing falls through the cracks by staying organized and proactive.
Responsive Communication: Respond to client emails, phone calls, and other communications no later than the next business day (and sooner when possible) to provide updates and answer questions. Likewise, promptly address communications from courts, opposing counsel, and internal team members.
Team Leadership & Collaboration: Provide leadership and guidance to your support team, including paralegals and legal assistants, to ensure efficient case management. Work collaboratively with other attorneys and staff at all levels - our firm encourages mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and supporting one another to achieve the best results for our clients.

Education & License: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in Colorado (in good standing).
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of litigation experience as a practicing attorney, with a strong record of handling cases through negotiation and/or trial. Family law experience is strongly preferred (experience in civil or criminal litigation will also be considered).
Litigation & Advocacy Skills: Proven ability to advocate effectively in the courtroom and in mediations/negotiations. Must be proficient with courtroom procedures, rules of evidence, and drafting pleadings/motions. Comfortable presenting cases before judges and adept at arguing orally and in writing.
Research & Communication: Excellent legal research, writing, and oral communication skills. Able to distill complex legal concepts into clear advice for clients and persuasive arguments in pleadings or court.
Empathy & Professionalism: Empathetic and client-focused, with a trauma-informed approach to client service. Able to remain calm, patient, and professional while working with clients in emotional or high-conflict situations. Shows genuine care for clients' well-being while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
