Punahou Athletics plays an integral role in the student experience. The philosophy of Punahou Athletics encourages student athletes, within the framework of the educational mission of the school, to be the best that they can be, to be the best team person, and to be a true team player, with the idea that this is what defines winning. The Athletics Department supports more than 149 teams in over 30 sports. Punahou’s athletic teams have enjoyed unparalleled success since the school was founded in 1841. The school also received notable recognition in Sports Illustrated as the top high school athletic program in the country.
Punahou School is currently seeking an Athletics Associate who will ascribe to the model that athletics is education-based and an extension of the classroom. The Athletic Associates serve as excellent ambassadors for the Punahou Athletics program; establish and maintain professional relationships with coaches, parents, and athletes; provide and facilitate support, advice, professional development, and are present to help coaches, athletes, and their families. They work actively to promote and continuously align Athletics with the aims of a Punahou education. The Athletic Associates should have a positive demeanor, be willing to help the Department, serve as a positive role model to student-athletes, have a strong work ethic, be organized and detailed in their work, and collaborative with everyone associated with the school and the athletic program. Their primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Educational Program
Work with the Athletic staff regarding course offerings, enrollment and registration, fees, and schedules
Work closely with coaches to clearly define and communicate tryout expectations, ensuring fairness, transparency, and consistency, reflecting the Department’s commitment to integrity and educational values
Provide administrative coverage at practices and competitions
Supervise locker room activities to ensure student safety when necessary
Learning and Professional Development
Proactively lead and collaborate in the identification, development, and implementation of educational and leadership professional programs for coaches
Support coach professional development by promoting best practices in instruction, leadership, and values-driven coaching at all levels of skill and competition
Oversee the P/ATH programming across the Athletic Department, and work with coaches and student-athletes on its implementation
Administration
Coordinating student conflicts with games, practices, and major events
Collaborate with the Athletic Directors and coaches to facilitate early planning and commitments
Provide Saturday office coverage based on events calendar
Coordinate practice facility scheduling
Monitor player eligibility and roster compliance
Sports Information/Media Specialist
Serve as the Department’s Sports Information/Media Specialist, enhancing the Athletics brand and promoting the excellence and values of Punahou Athletics.
Oversee production of game-day materials for all sports.
Coordinate logistics for media operations at events as well as media relations opportunities such as National Letter of Intent signings, press conferences, and interviews.

Work Year: 12 Months
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM, schedule may vary based on operational needs
Minimum of Salary Range*: $77,000 - Compensation is commensurate with qualifications

Pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant training and experience, and internal equity
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in education, athletics, or a related field.
Five (5) years of experience and a track record of leadership in a successful interscholastic program as a head coach or other significant leadership experiences in building and maintaining a successful large school program
Must have a valid Hawai’i driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. A current driver’s abstract is required to verify eligibility to operate a school vehicle or drive on school business.
Must have or be willing to obtain certifications and licensing as follows: National Coaching Certification, CPR/AED, Heat Illness Prevention, and Concussion in Sports.
Experience working with adolescents. Teaching experience preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to articulate the educational value of athletics and competition at the intermediate and high school level, and a track record of successful communication and modeling of these lessons and values to student athletes.
Substantial knowledge of athletics as demonstrated through the development of comprehensive practice plans, offensive and defensive schemes, implementation of off-season expectations for student athletes, and the implementation of effective and contemporary teaching/coaching practices, including appropriate and contemporary uses of motivational methods, conditioning principles and practices, risk management principles and applications, and understanding of human behavior and performance, differences in ability, personality and interests, learning and motivation.
Demonstrated experience working with student-athletes who show capacity to play at the next level, knowledge of the academic and athletic standards needed to continue their journey, and an understanding of the ever-changing landscape of the NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA expectations, rules, and regulations;
Demonstrated experience working on multiple social media platforms;
Business and management principles involved in resource allocation and the coordination of people and resources; and
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Windows (Word, Excel), email (Gmail), Google applications, and the Internet.
