Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior VMware System Administrator to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of our virtualized infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and optimizing VMware clusters, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability of our enterprise systems.
This role is critical to the stability and growth of our IT environment and supports key business applications and services.
This position is a 4.5 month contract to hire.
Responsibilities:
VMware Infrastructure Management:
Design, deploy, and maintain VMware clusters (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi) in enterprise environments.
Perform regular health checks, performance tuning, and upgrades for VMware hosts and virtual machines.
Manage vMotion, DRS, HA, and resource allocation to optimize performance and availability.
Implement and manage VMware vSAN or other shared storage platforms integrated with VMware.
System Administration:
Administer Windows and/or Linux servers within the virtual infrastructure.
Automate system deployment and maintenance tasks using PowerCLI, PowerShell, or other scripting tools.
Monitor and respond to alerts and incidents in a timely and efficient manner.
Disaster Recovery & Backup:
Develop and maintain disaster recovery strategies, including snapshot and replication management.
Coordinate with backup teams/tools (e.g., Veeam, Commvault) to ensure proper VM protection and recovery.
Security & Compliance:
Apply security patches and hardening standards across all VMware systems.
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, industry regulations, and audit requirements.
Documentation & Collaboration:
Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes.
Collaborate with network, storage, and security teams on integrated solutions and support.
Mentor junior team members and provide escalation support for complex VMware issues.
