ORBIS is seeking an experienced Controller to lead and manage the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial transactions, including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, billing, and financial close activities. The Controller will coordinate across departments to drive accountability for financial deadlines and ensure the integrity of financial systems and reporting. This position supports both commercial and U.S. government contracting operations and plays a critical role in driving operational excellence and compliance with applicable standards. The Controller will report to the CFO.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
Prepare consolidated financial statements, including supporting schedules and variance analyses.
Oversee daily accounting functions including payroll processing, A/P, A/R, cash management, journal entries, and reconciliations.
Supervise the administration and optimization of accounting, timekeeping, and expense systems.
Train, mentor, and manage the accounting team, promoting a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Serve as the primary contact for external audits, tax preparers, and banking relationships.
Collaborate with leadership to provide financial analysis and ad hoc reports to support decision-making and business strategy.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller or equivalent leadership role.
3+ years of experience using Deltek Costpoint.
Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, FAR, CAS, and DCAA audit compliance.
Demonstrated experience in both commercial and U.S. government contracting environments.
Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll processes and accounting systems.
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Routine video conference and/or in-person meetings.
Ability to attend planned meetings within the Washington Metro Area region.
