JOB SUMMARY Under direct supervision and/or direction of the department manager/director.

Performs duties assisting transportation of patients discharged from the hospital and cleaning of equipment, beds and rooms as needed in ambulatory care.# Strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product or service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience.# Recognizes and demonstrates understanding of patient and family centered care.# # JOB RELATIONSHIPS Responsible To Department Manager/Director # Workers Supervised None### # Inter-Relationships Other clinical departments, department staff, physicians, internal and external customers # PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Transports patients by assisting patients in and out of taxis, ambulances, cars, and helicopters; lifting patients on and off beds; moving them to and from special service and treatment areas, and operating rooms; using wheelchairs or moveable beds.

Comforts patients and their families by offering support and encouragement; being punctual and attentive to procedure schedules; demonstrating caring and cultural sensitivity.

Transports equipment, laboratory specimens and supplies by picking-up; delivering them to assigned treatment areas and patient care areas.

Transports deceased patients by following protocols and delivering them to the mortuary.

Cleans and disinfects medical equipment, beds and carts.

Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with federal and state legal regulations and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) requirements.

Enhances health care organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Attends in-service education programs as assigned and updates job knowledge by participating in other educational opportunities.

Demonstrate job related aspects of patient safety to assure a safe environment, safe and effective use of equipment and technology, and decreased risk of potential adverse patient occurrences.

Demonstrate knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards of care, policies and procedures, operating instructions confidentiality statement, corporate compliance plan, standards of behavior, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior.

Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on his/her assigned unit.

Performs other specific duties as assigned.

# JOB SPECIFICATIONS EDUCATION High school diploma/GED required.

Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required and maintained.

Demonstrate appropriate technique# in use of body mechanics to transfer patients from bed to wheelchair or wheelchair to car.

(Within 2 weeks of hire) EXPERIENCE Experience interacting with patients preferred.

# ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES/MOTOR SKILLS Must frequently lift or move items over 50 pounds.

Able to travel independently throughout all Memorial Healthcare facilities.

Small motor skills required for operating modern computer, office, and telephone equipment as utilized by Memorial Healthcare (MHC). Ability to utilize proper technique in patient transfer from bed to wheelchair and wheelchair to vehicle.

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL ABILITIES Proficiency using cleaning agents to clean equipment, beds and carts.

Ability to utilize phone/vocera to communicate with appropriate units.

Ability to have strength, and coordination to transfer and transport patients.
