Scope: Inpatient, Observation, Emergency Room, Infusion center, Medical ImagingThe Licensed Practical Nurse in Acute Care (LPN) provides patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The LPN plays an integral role in the physical and emotional comfort of patients and their families. The LPN provides direct patient care in collaboration with other health care team members and completes other tasks to support patient care. The NYS Education Department differentiated scope of practice of LPNs and RNs is the source of document used for determining tasks that the LPN may perform.
