Assistant Professor of Practice Posting Number req22819 Department Sch Geography, Dev & Environ Department Website Link Medical Sub-Speciality Location Main Campus Address Tucson, AZ USA Position Highlights The School of Geography Development and Environment (SGDE) at The University Arizona, is seeking an Assistant Professor of Practice (Career Track) to teach in person and online courses in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and to provide administrative leadership for our GIST degree programs.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a top-ranked geography department and be a faculty member at Arizona's land-grant institution.

GIS courses are a part of many degrees in SGDE including the BA in Environmental Studies, BA and BS in Geography, BS in Urban and Regional Development, BA in Food Studies and the BS and MS in GIST.

The online and in person MS-GIST program accepts students in the fall or spring semesters.

A new MS in Geospatial Data Science online degree will begin in fall 2025.

The BS-GIST program began in 2015 and now host 90 majors.

Successful applicants will teach across these programs.

The position is offered as a twelve-month appointment, which can be renewed on an annual basis.

Salary is $ 78,000-82,000, with a distribution of effort 40% teaching and 60% administrative service.

This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure.

Duties & Responsibilities Duties and Responsibilities: * Teach 4 courses per fiscal year.

The list of courses can be found at SGDE Undergraduate Programs ( and at GIST Programs ( The applicant will teach in person and online GIS courses at the graduate and undergraduate level.

* Administrative service will focus on program management in GIST and SGDE programs as it relates to geospatial technologies.

This includes such items as leading SGDE's geospatial industrial relations; managing the GIST internship program; providing professional development and student industrial job placement support; conducting the annual MS-GIST program assessment; developing and maintaining online GIS resources through a Learner Management System (D2L); providing technical support and liaison between ESRI and faculty, staff and students in SGDE; producing online materials for courses; advising and supporting student geospatial learning; managing undergraduate and graduate capstone logistics; managing listservs; managing MS-GIST handbook (chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/ and social media sites; organizing and managing outreach Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: * Masters degree in GIS.

Preferred Qualifications * PhD in Geography (or related fields). * 15 years professional experience in the geospatial industry.

* Significant experience providing GIS career services, professional development and academic advising.

* Experience managing an Organization's ArcGIS Online system for students, faculty, and campus partners.

* Advanced professional experience in developing, designing, and deploying scaled GIS projects from concept to implementation.

* Extensive experience in GIS project management to including hardware, software, personnel, budgets, technical execution, QA/QC, utilization, earned value, risk analysis, efficiency rating and ISO compliance.

* Significant professional experience in deploying, maintaining, and administering Esri geodatabases and SQL Server DBMS in an enterprise multi-user environment.

* Significant professional experience in deploying, maintaining, and administering Esri geodatabases and SQL Server DBMS in an enterprise multi-user environment.

* Familiarity with web and cloud-based web mapping systems for geospatial data dissemination and visualization.

* In person, online and hybrid teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level in GIS.

* Professional experience in GIS project development including iterative, waterfall and agile approaches.

* Experience with geodesy, map projections and deterministic methods for establishing parameters to map and project data in GIS systems for project execution.

* Experience with 2d and 3d GIS system for analysis, mapping and visualization.

* Experience using remotely sensed data to build, analyze and produce newly derived GIS data in a geodatabase using multiple data formats.
