Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer – Plastic Injection Molding
Location: Carson, CA
Position Overview:
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team in Carson, CA. The ideal candidate will have strong experience using SolidWorks for 3D modeling and product design, along with a solid background in plastic injection molding processes. This role is critical in supporting the design and development of innovative plastic components used in high-quality consumer and industrial products.
Key Responsibilities:
Design plastic components and assemblies using SolidWorks, from concept through to production
Develop 3D models and fully detailed 2D engineering drawings for tooling and manufacturing
Collaborate with tooling engineers and suppliers to support injection mold design and DFM (Design for Manufacturability)
Conduct tolerance stack-up analyses and apply GD&T to ensure high-precision fit and function
Support prototype builds, testing, and iteration of plastic parts
Participate in design reviews and collaborate cross-functionally with product development, manufacturing, and quality teams
Evaluate material selection for performance, durability, and cost optimization
Troubleshoot design and production issues related to plastic components
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
3+ years of experience in mechanical design, specifically with plastic injection molded parts
Proficient in SolidWorks for 3D modelling, surfacing, and mechanical drafting
Strong understanding of injection molding processes, parting lines, draft angles, and tooling considerations
Familiarity with plastic material properties and selection criteria
Experience with DFM principles and working with suppliers/tooling vendors
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in consumer product development or high-volume plastic manufacturing
Knowledge of FEA tools or simulation software
Familiarity with rapid prototyping methods (e.g., 3D printing, CNC machining)
Experience working within ISO or FDA-regulated environments (if applicable)Company Description
