Responsibilities

Ascension St. Vincent is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate acute care nurse practitioner or PA to join our dynamic team at Seton Specialty Hospital. As an APP in our high acuity long-term acute care facility, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive and advanced care to critically ill patients requiring extended hospital stays. This is a night shift position with hours from 7 PM to 7 AM. This role has a weekend commitment every third weekend.

Responsibilities:

Admission history and physicals:

Complete admission orders and medication reconciliation

Conduct thorough physical examination

Write comprehensive H&P

Interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory results

Formulate accurate diagnosis and differential diagnosis

Manage urgent and emergent situations:

Conduct physical exam

Order appropriate diagnostic testing

Initiate appropriate treatment plan based on differential diagnosis

Run RRT and codes

Complete written documentation for care provided

Medication management

Prescribe and manage medications, including complex drug regimens

Monitor for adverse drug reactions and adjust therapy as necessary

Procedural skills:

Perform advanced procedures such as intubation, central line placement, arterial line insertion, and chest tubes

Management of ventilator needs

Communication and collaboration:

Effectively communicate with patients, families, and health care team members

Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes

Education and counseling:

Educate patients and families about their medical conditions, treatment plans, and self-care strategies

Provide emotional support and address patient and family concerns

Qualifications:

Experience:

Prefer a minimum of 2 years of similar experience. Highly qualified individuals with critical care experience may be considered.

Clinical skills:

Strong clinical skills including advanced assessment, diagnostic, therapeutic abilities, and procedural skills.

Interpersonal:

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Critical thinking:

Ability to think critically, make sound clinical judgments, and adapt to rapidly changing situations.

Comparison:

Genuine compassion and empathy for patients and families.

Requirements

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Required Credential(s):

BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.

Nurse Practitioner specializing in Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Indiana Board of Nursing obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.

One or more of the following required:

Registered Nurse credentialed from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Registered Nurse credentialed from the Indiana Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

Master's degree of Nursing required.
