Large independent medical practice seeks a personable and organized person to coordinate the details surrounding surgery scheduling. You will work with patients, surgeons, and facilities staff to ensure that the administrative details surrounding the surgeries are handled completely, accurately, and with professionalism.Requirements:
Surgery Scheduler:
Essential Functions:
Coordinates the scheduling of surgical procedures within facility constraints.
Documenting arrangements, including scheduled date, procedures to be performed, and projected length of cases.
Communicating schedules to facilities, physicians, and patients, reconfirming schedules as needed; routing all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements; providing timely scheduling updates as needed; maintaining complete and accurate records of all surgical procedures and outcomes.
Ensures effective communication related to surgical procedures by functioning as liaison between the surgeon, the facility scheduler and additional professionals involved in the surgery.
Maximizes reimbursement for surgical procedures by ensuring appropriate procedure and diagnosis coding has been used for anticipated procedures, verifying patients' benefits coverage with insurance carriers, obtaining pre-certification(s) when necessary.
Collecting patient fees for surgical procedures by advising the patient/guarantor of verified benefits and the amount which the patient is responsible for.
Maintains complete and accurate knowledge of insurance carrier verification/precertification/authorization procedures by establishing relationships with insurance carrier representatives.
Contributes to patient-centered teamwork environment by becoming cross-trained in the duties of other department staff as directed. Effective and efficient communication skills, a must, Allscripts knowledge a plus.
Surgery Scheduler:
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Three years office or clerical experience or equivalent experience.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, staff, and departments
Strong organizational ability
Strong oral and written communication skills
