Reports To: OSP Supervisor or ManagerPosition Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced OSP Technician II to join our team and support our outside plant operations. This role involves the installation, splicing, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic infrastructure in both aerial and underground environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with fiber equipment, splicing techniques, and network design principles.Key Responsibilities:
Prepare, terminate, splice, bond/ground, and test fiber optic cables to division standards (OSP aerial and underground).
Terminate fiber at Inside Plant (ISP) Fiber Distribution Points (FDP).
Perform ring cuts, butt-splices, and work on live fiber without impacting existing services.
Conduct fiber testing using OTDRs, light sources, and power meters.
Accurately document equipment locations, splicing, and terminations for fiber databases.
Interpret and follow engineering drawings, schematics, and plans.
Monitor fiber network performance and perform corrective actions when issues arise.
Install and replace enclosures and other fiber-related telecom equipment as needed.
Use and calibrate fiber tools and test equipment including fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters, and traffic identifiers.
Maintain precise records and enter data into appropriate software systems.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies during field operations.Qualifications:
Education & Certifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required
FOC or FiberOptic.com Certification preferred
OSHA Certification (for bucket truck operations up to 40’)
Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of fiber optic field splicing and testing experience
Experience operating a bucket truck (40’ reach)
Knowledge of OSP/ISP network infrastructure and design principles
Proficiency with interpreting construction plans and creating accurate as-builts
Additional Requirements:
Must complete I-9 and E-Verify forms
Must pass a drug screen and background check
