Role: Manager, Technical Accounting and Controls

Reports To: Director, Accounting

Location: Los Angeles

Salary: $110,000-$130,000 / year

Title: Manager, Technical Accounting and Controls

The Manager of Technical Accounting and Controls will report to the Director of Accounting and will be responsible for the research and documentation of significant and non-routine transactions, partnering with all aspects of the business to ensure accurate and timely technical accounting reviews of proposed transactions and draft contracts, drafting and updating accounting policies, leading accounting standard adoption, and performing the accounting for complex business transactions. The candidate will possess an exceptional knowledge of US GAAP and have a passion for critically applying accounting principles to existing and new business activities. The candidate will combine this with exceptional soft skills necessary to be successful in this role including: being able to manage through ambiguity, executing against tight deadlines, maintaining strong relationships with FP&A and business partners and able to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.

Responsibilities

· Perform technical accounting research and analysis related to new or proposed transactions.

· Document and review conclusions in accordance with appropriate accounting guidance under both US GAAP and IFRS.

· Work closely with external auditors on technical accounting matters and bring accounting analyses to closure in a timely manner.

· Partner with Business & Legal Affairs, FP&A, Tax and other teams to provide expertise in support of deal structuring, new transactions and new or evolving business. Communicate complex accounting issues in a clear and concise manner to non-financial stakeholders.

· Work closely with FP&A to evaluate the financial impact of proposed or complex transactions and provide recommendations to senior management.

· Develop and maintain the Company’s accounting policy documentation and partner with other members of the accounting team to implement new accounting standards, changes in accounting policies and to operationalize the accounting for new or evolving policies.

· Respond to technical accounting inquiries from external and internal parties and communicate technical accounting matters and concepts to all levels within the organization.

· Monitor and assess the effectiveness of existing policies and recommend updates as needed.

· Ensure internal controls related to accounting policies are designed, implemented and operating effectively for Korean SOX compliance.

· Support management in completing special projects as assigned and be a technical accounting resource for ad-hoc questions and initiatives.

· Organize finance-wide trainings on various topics as it relates to US GAAP, IFRS and internal controls.

· Support the company’s compliance with Korean SOX, developing robust documentation around K-SOX-compliant internal controls, and ensure all controls are performed and documented in a manner that will meet the requirements of external auditors.

Qualifications and Skills

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting; Active CPA required

· 4-6 years of public and private experience with exposure to complex accounting issues, technical research, and memo writing

· Strong breadth and depth of knowledge and experience in US GAAP including but not limited to revenue recognition, film accounting, collaborative arrangements, consolidation and VIE assessments, hedge accounting, foreign currency transactions, stock based compensation and leases

· Experience in IFRS and knowledge of key differences between US GAAP and IFRS

· Ability to effectively communicate across the entire organization, with a high level of self-awareness when it comes to the effectiveness of your own communication and an ability to lead through influence

· Self-starter with the ability to work independently and within a team environment

· Proactive in managing up, escalating information, and communicating in an appropriate level of detail with a nuanced understanding of what matters most

· Ability to work cross-functionally to obtain all relevant facts, understand the business and accounting requirements, and communicate the conclusions reached

· Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including technical accounting memo writing skills

· Excellent organizational skills, time management skills and attention to detail

· A desire to work in a fast growing, exciting and agile business

· Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite; Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

· Experience with SAP or other similar ERP preferred

· Experience with SOX and internal control concepts, including documentation requirements
