Summary of the Role:

The Extraction Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day cannabis extraction and kitchen production activities at the facility. This role requires hands-on expertise in hydrocarbon extraction, solventless processing, post-processing, distillation, and formulation. The Extraction Supervisor will provide direct oversight to technicians, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, maintain accurate inventory and batch documentation, and support ongoing process improvement initiatives. This position plays a critical role in developing team capabilities while upholding safety, quality, and productivity standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Development

● Supervise, train, and support extraction lab and kitchen technicians in alignment with departmental goals and SOPs

● Promote a collaborative, compliant, and safe working environment

● Mentor team members and contribute to skills development; ensure new technicians are trained effectively

● Enforce adherence to company policies, quality standards, and safety procedures

Production Oversight

● Execute and supervise daily operations for hydrocarbon extraction, solventless techniques, winterization, distillation, and formulation

● Oversee extraction and kitchen production and ensure batches are completed according to schedule and specification

● Provide hands-on technical support during production as needed

● Monitor yield efficiency and ensure processes align with production targets

Compliance & Recordkeeping

● Accurately document all production activities and batch information in internal logs and quality records

● Perform inventory transactions in Metrc and ensure compliance with regulatory documentation requirements

● Ensure lab and kitchen operations are audit-ready and aligned with internal and external compliance standards

● Collaborate with Compliance/Quality Control to support internal audits and inspections

Equipment & Facilities Coordination

● Monitor laboratory equipment performance and coordinate maintenance and calibration with Facilities and Compliance/QC

● Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of all lab and kitchen areas in accordance with 5S principles

● Report and assist with the resolution of equipment failures or safety hazards

Process Improvement & KPI Tracking

● Contribute to the development of standard work and continuous improvement initiatives

● Record and report operational data relevant to key performance indicators (KPIs)

● Collaborate with the Processing Manager/Director of GP Operations on process optimizations and workflow enhancements

Cross-Functional Collaboration

● Coordinate with Inventory and Analytical Testing teams to ensure timely material movement and test submission

● Communicate effectively across departments to support efficient production scheduling and resolve operational issues

Safety Oversight

● Enforce safety protocols and support training initiatives for laboratory personnel

● Respond to and report safety incidents per internal protocols and OSHA standards

● Uphold a culture of safety and compliance throughout all operations

Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.

● 5 years of experience in cannabis extraction and a minimum of 2 years in a managerial role.

● Proven experience in managing lab operations, including staff management, equipment maintenance, and inventory control.

● Familiarity with cannabis regulations and compliance requirements at the local, state, and federal levels.

● Familiarity with MJ Freeway, or other seed-to-sale inventory systems.

● Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

● Experience complying with GMP and Food Safety standards.

● Excellent critical thinking and root cause analysis skills: troubleshoot issues in process, materials and instrumentation.

● A deep understanding of OSHA regulations and a proven track record for hazard communication program development, adherence, and enforcement.

● Flexible schedule availability including nights, weekends and holidays

● Ability to lift, push, and pull 75 pounds

● Ability to stand for extended periods of time

● Extended computer usage

● Comfortable being under constant video surveillance

● Work environments that include exposure to, but not limited to fumes, dust, odors, heights, indoor AC, no AC, motion, and noise.
