Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
The Pharmacy manager, under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, plans, directs, and continuously improves medication use process and pharmaceutical care for the populations served by the community healthcare system.
Supporting the Pharmacy Department at Trinity Health Livonia.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Assumes specific responsibilities for clinical services as determined by the department duties and objectives.
Responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring and supervising the clinical pharmacy services provided by staff pharmacists and clinical pharmacy specialists, and performs related work as a registered pharmacist as necessary.
In conjunction with the Department Managers, provides input on staff scheduling, enforces hospital and department policies and procedures, monitors compliance with accepted State and Federal laws and regulatory standards compliance, and with accepted clinical and professional standards of practice.
Consults with customers of the Pharmacy Department on a regular basis to identify opportunities to continually improve the quality and safety of the medication use process, reduce costs, and improve employee relations in a collaborative care environment.
Develops, update and maintains a staffing model that efficiently utilizes all resources to deliver high quality, patient centered pharmaceutical care across the entire continuum.
Integrates Pharmacy quality improvement activities with organizational improvement activities.
Develops and monitors work processes to effectively integrate inpatient activities with System Pharmacy services to provide continuity across the full continuum patient care.
Participates in multidisciplinary teams to develop patient centered services, designs and implements corresponding programs, and measures their effectiveness within the Health System’s goals related to quality, cost and patient outcomes.
Recruits, interviews, and hires non-management personnel, develops job expectations, and conducts annual performance evaluations. Provides guidance and direction staff to assist them in their professional development.
MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a Pharmacy degree or Master’s degree in Pharmacy, Hospital or Business Administration.
Completion of an accredited relevant residency program is preferred or equivalent.
Three to five years of progressively more responsible experience
Current State of Michigan Pharmacist license, or eligibility for licensure.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Interpersonal skills to effectively train, counsel, motivate and lead pharmacy staff and conduct productive customer-supplier relationships with Health System personnel
Knowledge of medications, dosages, compounding, and dispensing in order to prepare and dispense medications and other pharmaceutical supplies in a safe manner, and to provide advice and guidance on medications to physicians, nurses, and patients.
Functions as an on-line staff pharmacist on an as needed basis as workload dictates. Proven competency is required before providing services related to compounding.
Strong analytical and cognitive skills to evaluate drug costs assess impact on patient outcomes, and project total financial impact on System expenditures.
Ability to apply continuous quality improvement principles to define system problems develops alternatives, implement solutions, and measure the outcomes. Solid analytical skills to effectively develop, implement, and continually improve operational workflow systems
