JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of standards and procedures to ensure quality and consistency across engineering projects. This role will work closely with stakeholders to align engineering efforts with business objectives and customer needs. Additionally, they will provide technical mentorship and oversight for operational teams, ensuring excellence in project delivery, safety practices, and risk management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, profitability, and market competitiveness; collaborate closely with executive team members to align operations with overall business objectives

Identify potential risks in the manufacturing operations and develop proactive plans to mitigate them; ensure business continuity through effective contingency planning

Develop and oversee production schedules to ensure timely completion of manufacturing tasks, while maximizing efficiency and minimizing downtime

Lead and mentor a diverse team of managers and staff to foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and teamwork

Drive financial performance through effective budgeting, cost control measures, and resource allocation; analyze financial data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to make informed decisions and achieve operational targets

Manage and optimize infrastructure assets to satisfy internal financial targets

Maintain strong relationships with key customers, suppliers, and stakeholders; address inquiries and concerns promptly, striving to deliver exceptional service and meet expectations

Identify and implement innovative technologies and best practices to optimize processes, reduce waste, and improve productivity; stay abreast of industry trends and advancements

Evaluate and integrate new technologies and automation solutions to enhance manufacturing capabilities

Establish technical standards and ensure adherence to them for product development and company operations

Keep self and teams at needed technological skill levels; work jointly with employees on development and training plans

Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental policies; promote a culture of safety awareness and responsibility throughout the organization

Prepare regular reports for executive management, highlighting operational performance, challenges, and opportunities; communicate effectively across all levels of the organization

Contribute to a positive work atmosphere and act as a role model of teamwork and collaboration; support overall company and cross functional initiatives

Perform all other duties, projects, and activities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field of study; MBA preferred

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in engineering resource/multi-project management with progressive leadership responsibility required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing concepts, including product design, planning, and production processes

Demonstrated knowledge in principles and practices of facility planning, construction, and building maintenance

Ability to influence others, to change thinking, or gain acceptance/agreement by others on issues of significant importance to the company and/or sensitive situations

Ability to apply logic to a wide range of abstract and practical problems faced in the context of business and to problem-solve possible resolutions and outcomes

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience presenting project information across all levels of an organization

Results oriented, sense of urgency in seeking creative solutions to business problems

Demonstrated ability to manage high pressure situations, manage conflict, and prioritize workloads

Strong leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing teams and driving results

Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions

Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and deliver results on time and within budget

High level of creativity and innovation, with a passion for staying current with industry trends and emerging technologies

Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Innovative and entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to find and retain talented employees

Excellent ability to conceptualize long-term business goals and develop orderly processes to accomplish those goals

Proven ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary management team

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Lift, push, or pull objects of various dimensions up to 30 lbs. of weight frequently

Ability to perform 80% sedentary work and tolerate prolonged standing/sitting/walking

Ability to repeatedly balance, bend from the trunk, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects

Ability to verbally communicate, see, and hear
