SAVI EHS is seeking a highly skilled Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to lead safety efforts on a high-profile data center construction project in Gainesville, VA. This role requires a strong background in crane operations, including lift planning, rigging verification, and critical lift execution. The ideal candidate is a former crane operator or someone with hands-on experience overseeing heavy lifting activities. In addition to crane safety, this role will be responsible for implementing and managing comprehensive sitewide safety programs—ensuring full compliance with OSHA standards and fostering a proactive safety culture among all trades.

Key Responsibilities – Crane & Rigging Focus:

Lead all aspects of crane safety and lift planning, including review and approval of critical lift plans and load calculations.

Conduct pre-lift meetings and act as safety authority during crane operations.

Inspect rigging equipment and oversee rigging operations to ensure compliance with ASME, OSHA 1926 Subpart CC, and project standards.

Interface with lift directors, engineers, and operators to ensure safe execution of all hoisting and rigging tasks.

Monitor subcontractor crane operations and ensure certifications and qualifications are up to date.

Investigate crane-related incidents, near misses, and equipment failures; drive corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities – General EHS Oversight:

Manage the overall site safety program for a multi-trade construction project, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, NFPA 70E, and other applicable regulations.

Conduct daily site inspections, safety walks, and behavior-based observations.

Deliver site-specific safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training sessions.

Review and track Daily Hazard Analyses (DHAs), JHAs, permits (Hot Work, Confined Space, LOTO), and ensure proper implementation in the field.

Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.

Support emergency response planning, evacuation drills, and coordination with local responders.

Analyze safety data, generate trend reports, and present findings to site leadership and client EHS teams.

Coordinate with subcontractors to monitor compliance and promote proactive safety engagement.

Serve as a liaison between the client, contractors, and internal teams on all safety-related matters.

Support the development and continuous improvement of site-specific safety plans and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

Former crane operator or substantial hands-on experience with critical lift operations and crane safety.

5+ years of EHS leadership experience on industrial, data center, or large commercial projects.

OSHA 30 & 510 required; OSHA 500, CHST, CSP, or NCCCO Lift Director Certification highly desirable.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.

Working knowledge of construction safety software (Procore, iAuditor, Predictive Solutions, etc.).

Strong leadership, communication, and incident management skills.

Ability to manage multiple safety priorities and interface effectively with field crews, client reps, and senior leadership.
