Position Summary
We are seeking a senior-level professional to oversee and expand its automation and control systems design group. This leadership position is ideal for someone with a strong background in electrical or controls engineering, including the design and integration of automated systems, and who holds a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
The role combines technical leadership, client collaboration, and personnel development. Candidates should be prepared to guide projects from concept to execution while also shaping the growth of a design team.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and mentor a small group of engineers, with long-term responsibility for team development and scaling.
Contribute to internal standards, workflows, and coordination across departments.
Design and implement automated control systems tailored to client requirements, safety considerations, and industry norms.
Create detailed engineering documentation such as panel layouts, wiring diagrams, control architecture, and P&IDs.
Lead design efforts involving hardware specs, software integration, and field commissioning.
Provide guidance and technical support to team members; help facilitate skills development.
Interface with external partners including customers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth project delivery.
Tackle technical challenges with practical, forward-thinking solutions.
Generate technical documentation, client-facing reports, and project proposals.
Track work progress and maintain records to support budget, compliance, and quality goals.
Ensure adherence to safety codes, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
Support component selection and stay current with emerging technologies in automation.
Core Competencies
Strong command of tools and platforms used in industrial control systems (e.g., PLC/HMI programming, SCADA, AutoCAD).
Experience with Rockwell Automation or similar PLC ecosystems.
Knowledge of electrical and industrial standards (e.g., UL, NEC, NFPA).
Skilled in designing and specifying motor controls, safety systems, and industrial panels.
Proven leadership ability; adept at problem-solving and decision-making.
Effective communication skills and openness to feedback.
Capacity to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new software tools and design methodologies.
Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance in design deliverables.
Requirements
Active P.E. license (required).
Team leadership or engineering management experience.
Background in control system design and drafting (required).
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (ABET-accredited program preferred).
Experience in P&ID development (a plus).
Familiarity with UL 508A panel design and certification (preferred).
