Assistant Controller

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for helping maintain the financial records of the company, processing transactions, reporting various financial data, and analysis financial information

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments

Leads, guides and coaches a team of accountants with ongoing development, training and continued support

Oversees the maintenance and the balancing of the accounting system including data entry, production of required jobs, verification of data and performing analysis

Analyzes information, develops spreadsheet reporting, verifies and helps prepare information for distribution

Oversees and participates in the accurate preparation of financial reports including the completion of general ledger entries, the reconciliation of accounts across all locations and the maintenance of records and files

Oversees and participates in the accurate preparation of payments through accruing of expenses, including assigning account numbers and coding intercompany invoices; requests disbursements, reconciles accounts and defines taxability and period

Reviews accounts payable invoices for GL coding, GL date, and taxability; reviews ledger distribution of accounts payable transactions; accrues outstanding payments at month-end

Oversees the closing schedule including updates and communications reporting back to CFO

Develops and assembles financial statements for CFO & Board; produces financial notes and publishes financials when complete

Actively seeks to understand the production and operations of the business and how to best support the needs of the business; engage the team in ongoing activities to grow their understanding of the operations side of the business

Partners with business leaders to support the accounting and financial needs of their department, research financial data, interpret data and provide overall financial support

Partners with General Manager of each location to develop site specific reporting, analysis and provide support necessary to their individual operation

Reviews, investigates, and ensures that any errors are corrected; reviews reporting ensuring there are no inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports

Drives and manages change and continuous improvement for the team overseeing the development and implementation of updated accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and initiating recommended changes

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum five years’ experience in an Accounting/Financial reporting role with at least one year in manufacturing. Minimum one year experience in a Manager or Senior role responsible for leading a team. Proficient in MS Office applications - Word, Outlook, advanced Excel, experience with Accounting/ERP systems. Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Accounting. Must be willing to work overtime when necessary to meet deadlines.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand complex documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, and communicate in English.
