3rd Shift: Mon-Fri, 12:00am-8:00am
What You Will Do:
Machine large electrical generator rotor shafts, which are typically made from 50 to 70-ton high alloy steel forgings. Setup and align using steady rests. Operate one or more of the following machine tools: Tacchi CNC Lathe (18-meter length, 110-ton capacity), Ferrel CNC Lathe (17-meter length, 300-ton capacity), Ferrel CNC Lathe (11-meter length, 60-ton capacity), Ferrel CNC Lathe (16-meter length, 160-ton capacity), and Betts-Bridgeford Manual Lathe. Engage in continuous improvement by applying 5S methodology as a component of a Lean production system
At the beginning of a shift, meet with team and supervisor at a shift kickoff meeting to discuss a daily safety topic, job assignments, and shift goals. At an assigned lathe, begin machining a new generator rotor shaft.
Access the electronic production system to check shop notes from the previous shift; look up the work instructions and setup equipment for the production order.
Complete the machine setup by adjusting the position of the steady rests and changing over the steady rest shoes to the correct diameter.
Load the rotor into the lathe (with the assistance of a crane operator.)
Align the rotor and install the cutting tool needed for the first operation.
Continue with machining operations until end of shift; leave shop notes in the electronic production system for the next shift team so they can continue machining.
