Communication Systems Coordinator (Vacancy)

Definition

Under general direction, is responsible for coordinating the technical development, implementation and maintenance of complex communications systems for the City; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Work

Manages the strategic inoperability and emergency preparedness initiatives for the City;

Directs the technical communications system and infrastructure involved in handling and dispatching 911 calls for most Columbus agencies;

Supervises management personnel to include signing performance appraisals, recommending disciplinary action, and approving/denying leave requests;

Oversees the development and implementation of communication systems;

Confers with appropriate City personnel, network users, outside consultants and/or private vendors regarding the development and implementation of communication systems support services;

Develops and implements proposals for solving technical problems in the operation of the communication systems;

Evaluates the performance and operations of communication systems and initiates the repairs for compliance with budgetary constraints;

Evaluates the utility and cost effectiveness of existing and emerging communication systems and makes recommendations as appropriate;

Confers with management personnel in the development and implementation of system or network support services;

Coordinates projects with managers, specialists and technicians; monitors the progress and completion of projects, and makes personnel or resource allocations as necessary;

Makes budgetary recommendations and submits equipment and parts orders for implementation or operation of communication system and makes recommendations for system improvement;

Researches and writes federal grant proposals;

Participates in the preparation of bid specifications for the purchase of new electronic, telephone, radio, computer and/or computerized control equipment;

Implements process control programs and control graphics; writes and implements system programs using various programming languages and/or software packages.

Minimum Qualifications

Seven (7) years of experience installing, repairing, or maintaining complex communications systems.

Possession of a valid driver's license.
