DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux servers, ensuring high availability and performance; maintain security standards; and review new technologies. This includes leading Linux/Unix infrastructure projects that support a variety of Commonwealth agencies while ensuring alignment with enterprise IT objectives and compliance with organizational policies and industry best practices. Your work will involve developing contract specifications, overseeing contractor engagements, and ensuring service level agreements are met. You will be expected to monitor server performance and patch levels; diagnose, research, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers; test new technologies and recommend efficient solutions should issues arise; and serve as a system administrator.

Responsibilities also include liaising with other IT service providers within the Commonwealth on joint projects; creating and monitoring customer service and satisfaction metrics for the Linux/Unix Team; and ensuring that all provided services meet goals and implementing corrective actions wherever necessary. Work relies on you independent judgment and using a command line to operate servers, and success is achieved through overall availability and performance of systems and customer satisfaction. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment

Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to three days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year as an Information Technology Generalist 2, Applications Developer 2, Database Analyst, Information Security Specialist 1, or Network Specialist 2 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or

Five years of information technology experience that includes two years of technical information technology experience in applications development or applications maintenance, network operation or network maintenance, web site development or web site design, database maintenance or database development, data analysis and data model development, administration of information technology security programs, or other information technology support/administration services; or

Three years of information technology experience that includes two years of technical information technology experience in applications development or applications maintenance, network operation or network maintenance, web site development or web site design, database maintenance or database development, data analysis and data model development, administration of information technology security programs, or other information technology support/administration services, and an associate’s degree in any information technology field; or

One year of technical information technology experience in applications development or applications maintenance, network operation or network maintenance, web site development or web site design, database maintenance or database development, data analysis and data model development, administration of information technology security programs, or other information technology support/administration services, and a bachelor's degree in any information technology field; or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

This particular position also requires two or more years of full-time professional experience working with Linux Operating System.

Legal Requirements:

You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
