THIS IS A DEPARTMENTAL PROMOTIONAL POSTING OPPORTUNITY. ONLY CURRENT EMPLOYEES OF HAMILTON COUNTY WWTA WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.

Under General direction this classification is responsible for supervising, managing, and assigning work to maintenance and technical crews engaged in the installation, repair, and maintenance of wastewater treatment/collection systems including but not limited to gravity lines, pump stations, forcemains, STEP and grinder systems, wastewater treatment plants equipment, systems, and buildings. Work requires limited supervision and the use of independent judgment and discretion.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or a closely related discipline, plus five (5) years of direct work experience in the operation and maintenance of permitted wastewater treatment plants, decentralized treatment systems and sewage collection systems, two (2) years of which must be in a supervisory capacity. A valid Class “B” CDL is required at the time of application.

OR

An Associate’s Degree in Environmental Science or a closely related discipline, plus seven (7) years of direct work experience in the operation and maintenance of permitted wastewater treatment plants, decentralized treatment systems and sewage collection systems, two (2) years of which must be in a supervisory capacity. A valid Class “B” CDL is required at the time of application.

OR

The equivalent of a high school diploma and nine (9) years of direct work experience in a wastewater facility two (2) years of which must be in a supervisory capacity. A valid Class “B” CDL is required at the time of application.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A State of Tennessee Certification Collection System Operator Grade II is required at the time of application.

Candidates must have the ability to respond to emergence after hour call-outs, including on holidays and weekends, and participate in a stand by or on-call rotation.

SAFETY SENSITIVE:

This position has been identified as “safety sensitive” under the definition of 49 CFR Part 40-Department of Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Policy. This position will be subject to drug and alcohol testing for the following: 1) post offer pre-employment 2) when there is reasonable cause 3) after an on-the-job accident or contributing to an accident 4) on a random basis 5) prior to return to duty after suspension and/or 6) as follow-up. This is additional and also subject to the Rules and Regulations of The Employee Handbook.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. This position requires mobility, including the ability to frequently lift or move materials up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift or move up to 150 pounds and traverse steep and rough terrain. Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperatures.
