Description
The College of Science and Society at the University of Bridgeport is looking for adjunct instructors in English. Successful candidates should have teaching experience within the field of English composition, first-year writing, creative and professional writing, literature, and/or film studies. Candidates should have experience teaching diverse students and creating inclusive syllabi.
Primarily Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Demonstrate knowledge of the current methods and practices for teaching college-level courses;
Develop and/or update a course syllabus;
Prepare lectures, projects, homework, assessments, and other student assignments;
Grade all student assignments in a timely manner;
Provide appropriate feedback to students to promote academic success;
Maintain regularly scheduled office hours;
Attend program/department meetings as requested;
Learn and utilize Learning Management System and related technology to facilitate teaching;
Meet all designated class periods in the semester as dictated by the academic calendar.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have
Minimum master's degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, Literature, Technical or Business Writing, or a closely related discipline in Education or Humanities/Arts.
Ability to teach a variety of courses in film, literature, music, and the humanities.
Professional work experience teaching college writing, with additional experience teaching first-year experience courses, varied courses in literature, humanities, or other general education disciplines.
Demonstrated skill in teaching in a diverse environment.
Demonstrated dedication to excellence in teaching and a commitment to high academic and professional standards.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
A commitment to the academic, emotional, and social development of all students.
Demonstrated ability to use learning management software.
