STUDENT SUCCESS MENTOR TEACHER ROLE OVERVIEW: The Student Success Mentor Teacher plays a vital role in empowering ALL students to succeed by removing barriers and providing individualized guidance. This role supports students in navigating a self-directed, mastery-based learning environment, emphasizing relationships, personal growth, and academic progress. The mentor serves as the primary point of contact for students and families, guiding them in setting goals, reflecting on progress, managing their time, and making use of school supports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrates a deep commitment to student success, with a proven history of supporting at-risk and/or nontraditional learners.
Skilled in leading and implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to ensure equitable learning pathways for all students.
Excels in a remote working environment and actively contributes to a collaborative team culture rooted in continuous improvement and shared learning.
Possesses strong communication skills—written and verbal—essential for virtual collaboration, proactive student support, and clear family engagement.
Flexible, relationship-driven, and responsive to the evolving needs of a dynamic, student-centered school model.
Holds a valid Idaho teaching certificate with an appropriate secondary endorsement (or equivalent).
Demonstrates expertise in high school content, strong instructional design, and best practices for remote teaching and learning.
Possesses strong organizational and leadership capabilities with a demonstrated ability to support and coach colleagues. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teachers at Snake River Opportunities High School serve as both mentor teachers for a smaller group of students and as leaders and mentors for other content teachers.
Staff Mentorship: Provide guidance, support, and mentorship in a house/team of remote teachers, fostering collaboration and sharing best practices in remote instruction, student engagement, and supporting new students.
Mentor Teacher: Support a smaller group of students in achieving their educational goals.
Uphold high standards of professionalism in all interactions with students, colleagues, and families.
Student Support: Provide customized synchronous and asynchronous support for students.
Communication: Engage with students and families through various communication channels and model effective communication strategies for other teachers. Facilitate communication and collaboration amongst the teaching team.
Miscellaneous Responsibilities: Lead MTSS activities, proctor assessments, and facilitate school community activities (some face-to-face in local area).
