This role helps to foster self-reliance, care for the poor and the needy, and provide opportunities for giving and service by: helping members become economically and emotionally self-reliant; providing access to essential food and clothing items, helping members to prepare for and respond to disasters; and providing humanitarian aid to relieve suffering; thus furthering the mission of the Church. This role assists in ensuring that the Welfare production project is properly managed. This includes the planting, cultivating, spraying, irrigating, harvesting, and shipping of farm products for the Welfare system. Understands cultural practices (e.g., seed types and limitations, fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides) to ensure maximum quality and quantity of harvested products. Assists in supervising and coordinating activities of the workforce (paid, volunteer, and church service) and reports directly to the Production Project Manager.

Responsibilities

Assists the manager in caring for and maintain turkey health. Operates all types of farm equipment.

Adapts to critical time sensitive moments in which to place turkeys and harvest. During these critical moments, the incumbent must ensure that the work is accomplished, no matter the number of hours required.

Enforces and subscribes to safety regulations at all times.

Assists the manager in the training and supervising of volunteers.

Assists the manager in ensuring all physical facilities and equipment are properly maintained and repaired to reflect Church standards and image.

Keeps records of such maintenance.

Suggests changes to improve production methods, equipment performance and increase the efficiency of the operation. *This position typically supports a smaller farm or ranch within the system (less than 2,000 acres)

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Agri-science, Agri-business or related field and at least two (2) years of relevant farm/ranch management experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Able to handle basic repairs and maintenance of heavy farm equipment. Demonstrated knowledge of soils, fertilizers, crop rotation, irrigation system, etc., as it relates to agriculture or livestock production and basic knowledge of sound safety practices.

Must be physically active in order to move or lift objects, climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, etc.

Frequently moves or lifts 50 lbs. and occasionally 100 lbs. or more with assistance.

Able to traverse ditches and fences.

Able to wear safety equipment and clothing as required and work around chemicals as found in fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.

Able to generate reports and communications using computer and related software.

Able to sit long hours on noisy, vibrating equipment in dusty, hot wet and/or cold environment.

Climbs onto and operates machines.

Must be able to obtain pesticide certification.

Attend, annually, seminars or professional meetings to maintain and upgrade technical skills (irrigation farms only). Maintain certification-related credentials.
