Under the direction of the Phlebotomy Manager, the Phlebotomy Supervisor will provide leadership, guidance and oversight to the Phlebotomy Team, including training, competency verification, scheduling, supply maintenance and staffing. The Phlebotomy Supervisor will maintain excellent communication and working relationships with internal and external clients with the goal of providing consistent quality service to our patients and maintaining colleague morale at the highest level.

Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to:

Ensures adequate staffing and efficient, effective workflow for outpatient, off-site and inpatient phlebotomy services to meet clinical and provider demands.

Drives quality improvement initiatives, continuously look for means to improve department performance, serviceand employee morale.

Trains and ensures competency for new colleagues and students in the area of expertise.

Provide coverage for Phlebotomy Manager.

Schedules, provides input for payroll and employee performance evaluations.

Communicatesdepartment concerns to Phlebotomy Manager and makes suggestions for resolution.

Assists the Phlebotomy Manager in achieving departmental budget goals.

Maintais compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies including qualitiy improvement training, safety compliance and competency in the are of expertise.

Participates in special and major projects as space planning, lean and quality improvements.

Is responsible for the following employment actions: hiring, corrective action, performance reviews and termination in the absence of Phlebotomy Manager.

Incorporates Lahey Hospital and Medical Center Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities.

Complies with all LHMC Policies.

Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and LaheyHealth.

Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.

Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.

Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards.

Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.

Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.

Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Phlebotomy Certificate preferred.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Decision making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by precedents, policies and objectives. Regularly makes decisions and recommendations on issues that affect a department or a functional area.

Problem Solving : Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, requiring staff input, innovative, creativeand Lean diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.

Independence of Action: Ability to set goals and priorities for functional areas. May make recommendation for department policies, practices and programs. Manager or Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.

Written Communication: Ability to verbally communicate complex information in English effectively to all levels of staff.

Oral Communication: Ability to verbally communicate complex concepts in English and address sensitive situation, resolve conflicts, negotiate, motivate and persuade others.

Team W ork : Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflow. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the Phlebotomy Team. Resolve services issues in a timely and respectful manner.

Computer skills: Experience with computer skills required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.

Experience: 3-5 years of phlebotomy-related work experience, including 2-3 years of team lead/supervisory experience work required.
