Detailed Job Description

The Visual Communications Studies (VCS) Department at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is seeking a full-time, 9-month lecturer with expertise in 3D graphics and digital media. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in still and motion graphics in the areas of 2D and 3D design. The applicant is also expected to collaborate effectively with faculty to support the department’s goals and student learning outcomes.

Primary responsibilities include teaching and tutoring students in VCS programs, as well as supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing students enrolled in bachelor's degree programs in RIT’s College of Art and Design (CAD). Additional duties include curriculum development, service to the department and institute, continued professional development, and familiarity with Deaf culture and the educational needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing learners.

Courses taught may include design drawing, 3D modeling, 3D lighting, 3D motion, and 4D design. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency with industry-standard software and tools, including Adobe Creative Cloud, Autodesk Maya, Cinema 4D, ZBrush, and related 3D graphics and rendering plug-ins. Familiarity with a range of input devices (e.g., keyboards, tablets, scanners), editing tools (software or hardware used for content creation), and output hardware (e.g., monitors, printers, audio systems) is essential.

We are seeking an individual who has the ability and interest in contributing to a community committed to student-centeredness; professional development and scholarship; integrity and ethics; respect and pluralism; innovation and flexibility; and teamwork and collaboration.
